Baylor men’s tennis has added Tripp Tuff to its coaching staff as an assistant coach, with head coach Michael Woodson announcing the move.
Woodson made clear he’s bringing in more than just a tennis mind. He described Tuff as someone with “a calm, cool and collected presence” and said he also brings “a contagious confidence” that shows up quickly around him. Woodson added that Tuff has built a strong reputation for how he carries himself, how he connects with people and the belief he gives to those around him.
Tuff arrives in Waco after spending the 2025-26 season as an assistant with Northwestern’s women’s tennis program. Working alongside longtime head coach Claire Pollard, he helped the Wildcats finish 14-12 and reach the Big Ten Tournament.
Before that, Tuff spent two seasons as head coach at Hofstra, where he worked with both the men’s and women’s programs. Over his three seasons with the Pride, he helped multiple players earn All-CAA recognition. He also guided the women’s team to a program-best nine-seed at the CAA Conference Tournament in his first season in charge.
Woodson said Tuff stood out throughout the hiring process because of the way he approaches both the game and the people involved in it. “What stood out to us throughout this process was the way Tripp approaches the game and the people in it.
He has a great feel for relationships, a genuine passion for helping others and a confidence that I believe will make a tremendous impact on our student-athletes and our program. He is someone who understands that building a championship culture is about far more than tennis - it's about developing people, creating belief and bringing the right energy every day.”
As a player, Tuff was a Big East champion at DePaul and served as captain during the Blue Demons’ back-to-back conference championship seasons in 2021 and 2022. He was also named to both the Big East All-Academic Team and the ITA All-Academic Team twice.
Tuff graduated cum laude from DePaul in 2020 with a bachelor’s degree in neuroscience and a minor in peace, justice and conflict studies. He later earned a master’s degree in public health in 2022.
A native of Watermill, N.Y., Tuff now joins a Baylor staff that also added another assistant over the summer from Arizona. Woodson said, “I truly believe Tripp has a very bright future in this profession, and we're excited to be a part of that journey.
We're fortunate to have him joining our staff, and I'm really looking forward to seeing the impact he makes on our program, our student-athletes and the Baylor community.”

Baylor Just Gave Fans Another Reason To Get To McLane Early
Baylor fans heading to McLane Stadium this fall will find a more built-out pregame scene waiting for them long before kickoff. Baylor Athletics announced an enhanced Touchdown Alley experience for home football games, adding more entertainment, activities and food options to the lead-in before games as the Bears continue trying to make the stadium atmosphere part of the draw.
The area will open three hours before kickoff and include performances, fan activities, food trucks and designated spaces like a Kids Zone and Cooling Zone. There will also be giveaways, sponsor activations and a separate tailgate for Baylor Club members, giving early arrivals a little more to do while they wait for the action on the field. [Read more 🡒]
Baylors Loss Still Revealed A Reason For Real Optimism
Baylors narrow loss to Auburn still offered a useful snapshot of where the Bears may be headed under the right kind of defensive pressure. Even in defeat, the defense looked far more disruptive than it had at times earlier in the season, getting into the backfield and forcing Auburn to work for everything while the offense endured a mixed afternoon that included solid pass protection but little room on the ground.
The more encouraging part for Baylor is that this came with Jacob Redding sidelined for the season, yet the secondary still found ways to make plays. Reggie Bush II and Micah Gifford stepped into bigger moments with interceptions, and with a manageable stretch of games ahead, the Bears have a path to turn this kind of performance into something more lasting if the defense keeps traveling in the right direction. Baylor Fans Will Be Watching These Week 2 Usage Decisions Closely
Baylor heads into its matchup with Prairie View A&M still sorting through the aftereffects of the Auburn loss, and the biggest question for fans is how the Bears choose to distribute the ball and the snaps around their deeper offensive pieces.
