WACO, Texas - This weekend, Baylor women's tennis is set to kick off Big 12 play at the Hurd Tennis Center, hosting Arizona on Friday at noon and then taking on No. 6 Arizona State on Sunday at 1 p.m.
Baylor, currently holding a 4-3 record, is gearing up for their Go Gold match against Arizona, who comes in at 7-3. The Bears are riding high after a commanding 4-0 victory over Harvard last week, and they'll be looking to keep that momentum rolling against the Wildcats.
This matchup marks the fourth encounter between these teams. Baylor has come out on top in two of the previous three meetings, including a clean 4-0 sweep in Tucson and a nail-biting 4-3 win at home during the 2024-25 Big 12 Championship.
Once Friday's match wraps up, Baylor will shift focus to Sunday’s clash with No. 6 Arizona State. The Sun Devils are on an impressive five-match winning streak, highlighted by a 4-1 non-conference triumph over Texas Tech.
In their last showdown with Arizona State, Baylor emerged victorious with a 4-3 win. The Bears are eager to notch another top-10 victory, something they last achieved in 2017 against No. 2 Miami.
Arizona’s lineup doesn't feature any nationally ranked singles or doubles players. However, Arizona State boasts No. 16 Emilija Tverijonaite in singles, adding an extra layer of competition.
Baylor, on the other hand, has two nationally ranked singles players: No. 73 Na Dong and No.
110 Zuzanna Kubacha. This dynamic duo also holds the No. 88 spot in doubles rankings.
Before Sunday’s match against Arizona State, the Cub Tennis Club will take place at noon. This program, open to children ages 3-11, offers a fantastic opportunity for young fans to learn basic tennis skills from Baylor’s student-athletes and staff. While all equipment will be provided, participants are encouraged to wear athletic gear and tennis shoes.
With an exciting weekend of tennis ahead, Baylor fans have plenty to look forward to as the Bears aim to make a strong statement in Big 12 play.
