Baylor Stays Perfect With Dominant Doubleheader Sweep

No. 8 Baylor men's tennis showcases dominance with decisive victories over No. 12 UCF and Creighton in a commanding doubleheader performance.

In Waco, Texas, Baylor's men's tennis team put on a clinic, sweeping a doubleheader against No. 12 UCF and Creighton. The Bears first secured a 4-2 victory over UCF, followed by a decisive 7-0 win against Creighton at the Hurd Tennis Center.

Against UCF, Baylor set the tone by capturing the doubles point. Alexandru Chirita and Zsombor Velcz notched a 6-2 win on Court One, while Devin Badenhorst and Calvin Baierl mirrored that score on Court Three.

With Baylor leading 1-0, UCF pushed back in singles, grabbing wins on Courts Four and Five. However, Baylor’s Louis Bowden leveled the score with a 6-3, 6-2 win on Court Six.

Zsombor Velcz and Devin Badenhorst then clinched the match for Baylor, with Velcz overcoming No. 83 Wissam Abderrahman and Badenhorst battling through three sets to defeat No.

71 Yassine Dlimi.

Baylor carried their momentum into the matchup with Creighton. The doubles teams quickly secured the first point, with Van Schalkwyk and Arman Zamani winning 6-2, followed by a 6-3 victory from Badenhorst and Baierl.

In singles, Baylor dominated, with Velcz leading off with a commanding 6-1, 6-1 win. Luc Koenig and Calvin Baierl followed suit, each securing straight-set victories.

The Bears continued their sweep with wins from Bowden, Drew Hedgecoe, and Chirita, sealing a flawless 7-0 result.

Head Coach Michael Woodson praised the team’s execution and energy, especially in doubles play against UCF, noting the importance of securing early points. He highlighted the significance of involving the entire roster against Creighton, emphasizing the value of live match experience in maintaining team rhythm and momentum.
