GLASGOW, Scotland - Demario Prince put together the kind of performance that turns a strong summer into a statement. The rising Baylor senior captured the 110-meter hurdles title at the Commonwealth Games on Monday at Scotstoun Stadium, running 13.17 seconds to separate himself from the field.
Prince, the Jamaican champion and bronze medalist at the Prefontaine Classic, had to work through the opening round first. He finished second in his heat and posted the third-fastest time overall at 13.27 before stepping up in the final and winning by more than a tenth of a second over British champion Sam Bennett of Texas Tech, who clocked 13.30, and Olympian Milan Trajkovic of Cyprus, who finished in 13.32.
The victory adds another line to an already busy season for the NCAA indoor and outdoor All-American in the sprint hurdles. Earlier this month in Eugene, Ore., Prince broke his own school record at the Prefontaine Classic with a 13.01 that earned him third place.
His summer has been packed with high-level results. At the Jamaican Championships in June, Prince won in a then season-best 13.13 to edge Arkansas’ Jerome Campbell, who was sixth in Monday’s Commonwealth Games final. Prince also placed seventh at a Diamond League meet in London nine days ago, running 13.27.
The Commonwealth Games, a quadrennial international multi-sport event, features athletes from across the Commonwealth of Nations, which includes the majority of former territories of the British Empire. The event began in 1930 as the British Empire Games.
Baylor will have more familiar names in the mix as the meet continues. Former Baylor All-American and 2025 Bowerman Award finalist Nathaniel Ezekiel is representing Nigeria and is set to run the 400-meter hurdles, with the semifinals on Wednesday and the final on Friday.
Elsewhere over the weekend, Baylor grad Tenly Kuhn tied for sixth in the women’s pole vault after clearing 14-3.25, and 2021 NCAA Indoor champion KC Lightfoot finished fourth in the men’s pole vault at 18-9.25.
Three-time All-American Tiriah Kelley came up just short of the 200-meter final, missing out by seven hundredths of a second after placing 11th in 23.25 seconds. Baylor grad Laurenz Colbert and rising junior Malik Franklin also competed in the 200 and 400 meters, respectively.

Phil Steeles preseason list gave Baylor a little bit of everything, starting with senior punter Palmer Williams and extending across all three phases of the roster. Williams landed on the third-team Preseason All-America list and was also named the Big 12s top preseason punter, while defensive tackle Hosea Wheeler, linebacker Travion Barnes, long snapper Dylan Schaub and offensive tackle Kaden Sieracki also drew conference recognition.
For Baylor, the spread of those honors says as much about the programs depth as it does about any one standout. Williams has already established himself as a weapon, and the special teams respect was joined by nods for an interior defender, a linebacker, a snapper and a tackle, giving the Bears a strong early-season snapshot of where some of their most trusted pieces stand.
