Baylor softball is set to kick off its annual Green and Gold World Series on Saturday at 10 a.m. at Getterman Stadium, with the Bears using the intrasquad action to keep sharpening things for the 2027 season.
This year’s group arrives with a top-25 transfer class, according to D1Softball.com, and head coach Glenn Moore said the series will help him sort through the roster while upperclassmen take on leadership duties in the dugout and on the field.
"The upperclassmen are doing the coaching, so it's fun to sit back and evaluate how they interact, deal with adversity, handle challenges and see their competitiveness come out," Moore said. "You want competitors, and this tells us a lot about the nature of their competitiveness and who's going to compete when we're playing an opponent in the spring."
For junior infielder Faith Piper, the benefit goes beyond evaluation. She said the series has a way of turning teammates into immediate rivals, which is part of what makes it valuable.
"This gets really competitive. It gets really amped up, honestly," Piper said.
"It's really cool to be able to compete against each other. You get to see people's competitive sides, and then you can look back on it in the spring and remember how competitive and fierce we were."
Junior pitcher Peyton Tanner pointed to that same edge as a built-in rehearsal for what Baylor will face when the games start counting.
"We just do a good job of making it competitive so that we can really simulate what it's going to be like in the spring," Tanner said. "Last year, when I would have bases loaded, Faith [Piper] would look at me and say, 'We've been here, Green and Gold.' Honestly, that was something that would get me through to the next inning in the spring, too."
The series resumes Monday at 4:30 p.m., and if a deciding game is needed, it is scheduled for Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. All games will be played at Getterman Stadium and are free and open to the public.

Baylors Offense Has A Problem The Defense Cant Keep Covering Up
TCUs 17-6 win over Baylor was a reminder that even a defense that does a lot right can only carry a team so far. The Bears defense generated four sacks, 10 tackles for loss and an interception, but the offense could not turn those stops into enough points, with Baylors line having trouble holding up against TCUs pressure and the ground game offering little help.
DJ Lagway spent much of the night dealing with tight coverage and heat in the pocket, and Baylor never found a clean rhythm through the air. Gavin Freeman was the steadiest piece of the passing game with seven catches for 76 yards, but the Bears still came away with too many empty drives and not nearly enough production to support a defense that was doing its part. Baylor Still Has One Harsh Problem After Rivalry Loss
Baylors latest loss in the Revivalry came with a familiar frustration attached, as TCU handled the Bears 17-6 in the 122nd meeting between the longtime rivals. The Horned Frogs also were working with a new offensive line setup, but the bigger story was their defense, which kept Baylor from finding much rhythm and put the Bears in a tough spot for much of the afternoon.
For Baylor, the concern goes beyond one rough showing against an in-state rival. TCUs front repeatedly disrupted the Bears offense, and Hayward was a major reason why, finishing with five tackles and three sacks while setting the tone for a unit that controlled the game. The result left Baylor with another harsh reminder of how thin the margin is when the offense cannot answer a defense playing at that level. [Read more 🡒]
Baylor Gets A Huge Revivalry Test With Home Momentum On The Line
Baylor walks into another chapter of its rivalry with a real chance to keep early momentum rolling at home, and the setup is familiar enough to make the stakes easy to understand. The Bears have started well, the crowd should be into it, and the matchup with TCU brings all the usual tension that comes with a game that means more than a normal conference weekend.
There is still plenty of room for the kind of details that can swing a rivalry game, from injuries to how each side wants to attack on Saturday. Baylor will be watching its defensive availability closely while trying to protect the edge it has built so far, and TCU arrives with enough history in the series to make this one feel less like a formality than a test of whether the Bears can keep their home surge intact.
