Baylor Athletics is teaming up with TheLinkU in a move aimed at widening NIL opportunities and giving the department a more unified way to handle revenue and athlete support.
The school announced Thursday that it will integrate TheLinkU’s NIL and revenue platform into its athletic department infrastructure, a setup Baylor says is meant to create new revenue, grow brand partnerships and help student-athletes maximize their NIL potential.
“As we continue building a modern NIL and revenue strategy, it was important to partner with a group that understands the current complexity of college athletics and can adapt as both legislative and industry changes occur,” said Doug McNamee, Vice President and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics. “TheLinkU brings operational expertise and industry experience that will help position Baylor and our student-athletes for long-term success.”
Baylor’s use of the platform will stretch across its NIL operations. That includes GM modeling software to aid roster and compensation strategy, centralized contract management, automated compliance workflows and integrated financial education resources for student-athletes. Administrators will also get a clearer view of NIL activity, deal flow and overall program performance.
TheLinkU will also open the door to a network of more than 30 national brand partners in technology, finance, apparel and consumer goods, which Baylor says will create scalable NIL opportunities and more ways for brands to get involved.
“With the amount of money flowing through college athletics, there's more pressure than ever on athletic departments, and expectations have changed dramatically across the board,” said Austin Elrod, founder and CEO of TheLinkU. “Fans expect programs to win, donors expect results, administrators expect sustainable revenue growth and student-athletes expect real support and real opportunities.
Those expectations can't be met with disconnected systems and a fragmented approach. Athletic departments need infrastructure that brings strategy, operations, compliance and revenue generation together in one place so they can move faster, make smarter decisions and scale sustainably.
From our experience working alongside Baylor through Players Era, it was clear the department understands where this industry is heading and is willing to invest in their program accordingly.”
The partnership goes beyond back-end operations. It will also introduce Link254, a Baylor-focused platform from TheLinkU that connects student-athletes with businesses, alumni, fans and supporters through new products, partnerships and experiences.
The first Link254 offerings will include 254-branded snack products, specialty merchandise and 254 Thropic Games, an interactive experience where fans can test their Baylor knowledge and compete for exclusive prizes. More products and experiences are expected as the platform expands.
Link254 will also give fans and supporters a web-based way to directly back NIL opportunities for the Baylor teams and programs they care about most.
For businesses and brands, the platform will offer customized partnerships built around specific marketing goals. Those could include athlete-led content, social media campaigns, appearances, activations, sponsorships, product promotion and fan engagement. Baylor says the model is built to work for local and Baylor-affiliated businesses as well as regional and national brands.
The school says the partnership helps position Baylor to keep adapting in a fast-changing college athletics landscape while building a more connected approach to NIL, revenue generation and student-athlete opportunity.

Baylor Receiver Depth Suddenly Looks Shaky Right Before Auburn
Dawson Pendergrass has worked his way back from a foot injury and is now expected to be ready when Baylor opens the season against Auburn, which gives the Bears at least one encouraging update as the countdown to kickoff continues. Getting a receiver back in the mix matters for a Baylor offense that wants to settle in early, especially with the season opener carrying a little extra attention against a Power Four opponent.
Taz Williams Jr. is the tougher subplot to sort through after he injured his collarbone in practice and is set for surgery, leaving his availability in question at a time when depth is already a concern. Coach Dave Aranda has said Williams Jr. could be back within a few weeks, but for now Baylor is left waiting on a more precise timeline and hoping the receiver room can absorb the hit until it gets clearer answers. Caden Knighten Could Be Baylor's Most Dangerous Backfield X-Factor
Caden Knighten arrived at Baylor with the kind of speed that always makes a backfield interesting, and he has already shown he can do more than just sprint past defenders. A former Oklahoma 2-A 100-meter state champion in 2023, Knighten carved out a role last season while sharing touches with Bryson Washington and Michael Turner, finishing with 104 carries for 469 yards and 11 catches for 134 yards, plus a rushing score and a receiving touchdown.
With Dawson Pendergrass healthy this season, Knighten is expected to stay in a reserve role, but that does not make him any less important to the Bears offensive picture. Baylors rushing outlook feels like it could hinge on how much explosiveness it gets from Knighten and the other backs around him, especially if the staff keeps finding ways to get him into space where his track speed can change a drive in a hurry. These Baylor Players Could Decide Whether The Bears Matter Again
After a disappointing season, Baylors path back into relevance will likely come down to whether a handful of core pieces can raise the floor quickly enough. The Bears have reasons for optimism in returning talent and transfer help, but the biggest swing factors are still the same ones that usually decide whether a retool becomes a turnaround: steady quarterback play, a run game that can keep defenses honest, and enough disruption on defense to stop the weekly bleeding.
Dawson, DJ Lagway, Wheeler, Freeman and Kyland all sit near the center of that equation, each carrying a different kind of weight for a team trying to climb back into the conversation. Baylor does not need every question answered at once, but it does need some of these players to look like difference-makers rather than placeholders, and that is why this group feels so important heading into the year.
