Baylor has put an offer on the table for Bear Acy, the five-star prospect in the 2029 class who also happens to be the son of former Bears standout Quincy Acy.
That combination of name, bloodline and ranking makes Bear an obvious player to watch. He’s listed as the No. 7 overall prospect in the country, and Baylor is now in the mix early for a recruit who figures to draw plenty more attention before his decision is made.
Quincy Acy spent his Baylor career from 2008-2012 and made a living attacking the rim. At forward, he was a steady source of points, rebounds and blocks, and his work on the defensive end earned him All-Big 12 Defensive Team honors for the 2011-12 season.
Bear comes with his own intriguing profile. At 6'7", he has the size to play as a guard, and his length gives him real versatility. That frame can help him disrupt passing lanes, generate deflections and block shots, while also making him a threat at both ends of the floor.
Baylor’s offer also brings a family connection full circle for Scott Drew. Drew, the son of Hall of Fame coach Homer Drew, served as an assistant under his father at Valparaiso before taking over at Baylor in 2003. He coached Quincy Acy through all four of his seasons with the Bears.
If Bear Acy eventually signs, Drew would have coached multiple generations of the same family, a notable addition to a resume that already includes plenty. Baylor also has other legacy ties across its sports programs, including Trevor Laurence on the football team.
For now, Baylor has made its move on a player with major upside and a familiar last name. If Bear Acy ends up in green and gold, he’d give the Bears’ 2029 recruiting class another big boost.
