Baylor Equestrian Just Sent A Message Before Its Biggest Test Yet

Baylor's equestrian team delivers a thrilling victory over Fresno State, setting a high standard for the season ahead.

No. 9 Baylor got the kind of result it needed on Friday afternoon, taking down No. 8 Fresno State, 11-9, in the Bears’ conference opener at the Willis Family Equestrian Center in Waco, Texas.

The win moved Baylor to 3-1 and gave the Bears a split of the day’s momentum battle: they won Fences, 4-1, and Flat, 3-2, while also doing enough in Reining and Horsemanship to hold off the Bulldogs. Jumping Seat senior Caroline Muth headlined the meet with her second career Most Outstanding Performer honor in Fences.

Baylor set the tone early in Flat, where Morgan McCarthy, Juliette Earley, and Julia Babington each delivered points for the Bears. The next stretch belonged to Reining, with Sadie Peters and Isabelle Hildebrandt adding two more points before the teams reached halftime tied at 5-5.

After the break, Baylor made its move. Muth, Nicolette Perry, Katie Smith, and McCarthy powered a 4-1 edge in Fences, with Muth turning in a career-high 86 - the highest score for Baylor in the meet. From there, the Bears finished the job in Horsemanship with points from Addisyn Albers and Isabella Buckley, sealing the 11-9 upset.

There were plenty of individual bright spots beyond the final score. Buckley and Babington both made their collegiate debuts and each helped Baylor on the scoreboard. Albers posted a career-high 77.5, Hildebrandt set a career best at 72, Earley hit a season-high 85.5, Carley Rutledge earned a season-high 75, Peters reached a season-high 71, Smith posted a season-high 82.5, and McCarthy logged a season-best 81 in Fences.

For Muth, the day belonged to Puzzle and an 86 that matched the best ride of the meet. That effort earned her the second Most Outstanding Performer award of her career.

Head coach Casie Maxwell said the home result gave the team something to build on.

"It feels really good to be back at home. The team earned the win under our belt and restored some confidencethat they lost a couple of weeks ago.

I'm really proud of how they fought all day long. They kept their heads about them and laid some really solid rides out today.

If we can just get rid of those mistakes and get out of our head a little bit, that'll be the goal before TCU comes down here. We just need to keep building on those steps and building our confidence, and they get a little better every single time.

That's really all we can ask of them. They've been really, really great, and glad they get to enjoy a day off tomorrow."

Albers said Baylor came out ready to compete and still has more to chase.

"I thought we came out and really put it all out there. I think that there are still things that we're going to keep challenging ourselves on every day and get better at."

Baylor’s next test comes Friday, Oct. 23, when the Bears host No. 6 TCU at 11 a.m. at the Willis Family Equestrian Center.

Baylor Golf Faces A Big Test In A Format That Changes Everything

Baylor mens golf heads to Salt Lake City this week for the Big 12 Match Play Tournament, a three-day event at The Country Club of Salt Lake City that can look nothing like a standard stroke-play week. Instead of chasing a cumulative score from start to finish, the Bears will be navigating pool play from Oct. 12-14, with the format setting up a very different kind of pressure before anyone even reaches the semifinal round.

For Baylor, the challenge begins with the draw and the margin for error that comes with it. The Bears are in Pool D with Kansas, TCU and West Virginia as the No. 13 seed, which means every match will matter in a setting built around momentum, quick swings and the kind of head-to-head battles that can reward a team playing its sharpest golf at the right time. Baylor Soccer Returns Home With Something To Prove Sunday

Baylors soccer team is back at Betty Lou Mays Field on Sunday, and the timing feels right for a little reset at home. The seventh-ranked Bears bring a 10-2-1 record into a noon kickoff against Kansas State, with Aryanna Jimison again expected to be central to what Baylor does. Free admission should help create a lively setting, and those who cant make it will be able to follow along on ESPN+.

Kansas State comes in at 5-4-4, with Gabby Demers among the Wildcats players to watch, but this is also the kind of match Baylor wants to handle cleanly as it settles back into conference play. The Bears have spent much of the fall carrying the burden that comes with national ranking and local expectations, and Sunday offers another chance to reinforce that place near the top while adding a little more clarity to where they stand. Baylors Bye Week Puts New Focus On A Tense Stretch Ahead

Baylors schedule gets a brief reset this week, with the Bears off in Week 6 and the long-anticipated Revivalry also pushed back. That pause only sharpens what comes next, because the stretch from Week 7 through Week 13 is packed with familiar Big 12 pressure points, road trips, and opponents with varying momentum as the calendar turns deeper into October and November.

The next run starts with a home date against Kansas State before Baylor heads to TCU, then returns to Waco for a game with UCF and a visit from Utah. From there, the Bears face a trip to Cincinnati, a home matchup with Arizona, and a late swing to Houston to close the regular-season buildup. A few of those future opponents are in action during Week 6, giving Baylor and its fan base one more chance to monitor how the rest of the league looks before the seasons most demanding part arrives.
