Baylor Bears Secure Ninth Top Five Finish After Late Surge

Baylor's women's golf team continues its impressive season with a strong showing at the PING ASU Invitational, highlighted by standout performances from Silje Ohma and Malena Castro.

In the sun-drenched setting of Phoenix, Arizona, Baylor senior golfer Silje Ohma delivered a standout performance at the PING ASU Invitational, held at Papago Golf Club. Ohma dazzled with six birdies, shooting an impressive 5-under 31 on the back nine, marking her fourth consecutive top-15 finish. Her efforts helped secure Baylor's fourth-place finish overall, with a team score of 7-under 857 in the three-day, 54-hole tournament.

The competition was fierce, with second-ranked USC leading the pack, finishing at 23-under 843. They were followed by No.

23 Arizona State at 12-under 852, and Cal State-Fullerton at 9-under 855. Baylor was among the only four teams in the 16-team field to finish under par.

Reflecting on the team's performance, Baylor head coach Jay Goble expressed optimism: "We moved in the right direction this week. Finishing under par against a strong field and securing another top-five finish is definitely a positive step."

Sophomore Malena Castro continued to impress, securing her sixth top-10 finish of the season. She shot 1-over 73 on Wednesday, tying for eighth at 4-under 212. Castro's birdie on the par-4 18th was crucial in maintaining her top-10 standing.

"Malena's consistency is commendable," Goble said. "I'm proud of her progress and excited about where her game is heading."

Adding to Baylor's success, junior transfer Yurang Li finished tied for 18th at even-par 216 after a final round of 3-over 75. Freshman Amelia Wan contributed with a 3-over 75, finishing tied for 31st at 4-over 220.

Rounding out the team's scores, Bridget Boczar and Charlotte Brook, playing individually, shot 8-over and 7-over, respectively.

Looking ahead, the Baylor women are gearing up for The "Mo"Morial at Traditions Club in Bryan, scheduled for April 6-8. "We have one more event before the big tournaments," Goble noted. "We'll focus on what we can control to be ready for the Big 12's, NCAA regionals, and nationals."
