Baylor Men's Golf Team Gears Up for Maridoe Collegiate Challenge

In Carrollton, Texas, the Baylor men's golf team is set to face some of its toughest competition this spring at the Maridoe Collegiate tournament, kicking off Monday at the Maridoe Golf Club. This 54-hole, two-day event features a formidable lineup, including four teams ranked in the top 20.

Among these are Big 12 powerhouses like seventh-ranked Oklahoma State and No. 9 Arizona State, alongside No.

15 Oklahoma and No. 16 Alabama.

Host team North Texas, Mississippi State, and others round out the competitive field.

Last year, Baylor secured a sixth-place finish at this event, with Jonas Appel leading the charge with a top-20 performance. Oklahoma claimed the title, outpacing Oklahoma State by a significant margin.

Recently, Baylor showcased its potential by finishing eighth in the inaugural Michael A. Marino Classic in Myrtle Beach, S.C., besting two top-50 teams.

Appel and senior Sam Dossey were standouts, both tying for 26th with scores of 1-over-par 217.

A standout moment came from redshirt senior transfer Evan Vo, who recently excelled at the PGA Tour of Americas Q School at TPC Houston. Vo's impressive 9-under 63 in the second round contributed to an 18-under 270 finish, securing his PGA Tour of Americas playing card. Former Baylor golfer Trey Bosco also made waves, winning a playoff to claim a spot on the tour.

"Evan's performance is a testament to his dedication over the past year," said Baylor interim head coach Ryan Murphy. "His achievement is well-deserved, and we're all incredibly proud."

Joining Vo in this week's lineup are Appel and Dossey, along with juniors Alex Heard and Davis Ovard. Freshman Tyler Sanford, making just his second collegiate appearance, will compete as an individual. Sanford showed promise at the Bentwater Intercollegiate, finishing 27th with a solid 1-under 70 in the second round.

The tournament kicks off Monday with an 8 a.m. shotgun start, followed by an afternoon round. Fans can keep up with the action through live scoring available at the Maridoe Collegiate.
