The Baltimore Ravens are on a mission to revamp their defense after a lackluster 2025 season. With the offseason in full swing, they've made significant strides by bringing in Jesse Minter as head coach and Anthony Weaver as defensive coordinator. Adding to their arsenal, they’ve secured premier edge rusher Trey Hendrickson in free agency, signaling a clear upgrade from last year’s lineup.
Despite these improvements, the Ravens are still a couple of pieces short of achieving defensive dominance in 2026. One critical area needing reinforcement is the interior defensive line.
Pairing another game-changer with Nnamdi Madubuike and Travis Jones could elevate their defense to elite status. Enter former Raven Calais Campbell, whose return could be the key to completing Minter’s defensive vision.
Baltimore Ravens Eyeing a Calais Campbell Reunion?
Bringing Campbell back would transform an already improved defensive line into a formidable force. The 2025 unit, which recorded 30 sacks, could become one of the league's most feared.
Hendrickson is poised for another double-digit sack season, while Mike Green is showing promise after an impressive rookie year. With Madubuike expected to return strong from his neck injury and Jones continuing his development, adding Campbell would mean talent at every position.
At 39, Campbell is still performing at an exceptional level. Last year with the Arizona Cardinals, he notched 6.5 sacks and 33 pressures, proving age is just a number. His towering 6-foot-8 presence remains a challenge for opponents, as evidenced by his 15 pressures against double teams in 2025.
Most QB Pressures After Facing Double Teams in 2025:
- Jeffery Simmons - 18
- Christian Barmore - 17
- Vita Vea - 16
- Quinnen Williams - 15
- Calais Campbell - 14
Campbell’s leadership could also be invaluable in the locker room. After a tough season, his veteran presence would be crucial for a team looking to rebound. With a new coaching regime, Campbell’s experience, especially having worked with Minter in 2020, could ensure a smooth transition.
While GM Eric DeCosta has indicated a cautious approach to spending, a one-year deal for Campbell seems feasible. Spotrac projects a $10.9 million contract, but given Campbell’s age and the potential for a reunion, the Ravens might negotiate a more team-friendly deal.
With Broderick Washington potentially on the chopping block, there’s room for an additional interior lineman. If the Ravens are serious about bolstering their pass rush, Calais Campbell could be the final piece they need. They’ll need to act swiftly to prevent another team from snapping him up.
