The Pittsburgh Steelers have a glaring need at wide receiver, and there’s growing buzz that the Chicago Bears might have a solution-if they’re willing to make a move.
Wideout DJ Moore, once the centerpiece of Chicago’s passing attack, could be on the trade block this offseason. While nothing’s official, the logic behind a potential deal is hard to ignore. Moore’s production has tailed off over the past two seasons, and with the Bears transitioning to a younger core of pass-catchers, the timing might be right for both sides to move on.
Let’s rewind a bit. Moore made a huge splash in his debut season with the Bears in 2023, looking every bit the WR1 Chicago hoped for.
But since then, the numbers have dipped, and so has his involvement in the offense. That slide has coincided with the arrival of quarterback Caleb Williams, the Bears’ top pick and franchise hope.
For whatever reason, the chemistry between Moore and Williams just hasn’t clicked, and that disconnect has been hard to miss on Sundays.
Meanwhile, Chicago’s receiving room is getting crowded-and younger. Rome Odunze, Luther Burden, and Colston Loveland represent the future of the Bears’ aerial attack, and they’ve shown enough flashes to make the front office think long-term. Add in Moore’s hefty $110 million contract, and the math starts to favor a trade.
Enter Pittsburgh.
The Steelers have been in wide receiver purgatory for a while now. George Pickens has shown he can be a legitimate threat, but Pittsburgh hasn’t given him a consistent running mate.
In 2024, they failed to find a true WR2. In 2025, even with DK Metcalf in the mix, the supporting cast still left a lot to be desired.
The result? An offense that never quite found its rhythm.
Now, with Mike McCarthy stepping in as the new head coach-bringing an offensive mindset the Steelers have lacked in recent years-there’s real hope that Pittsburgh will finally prioritize giving their quarterback the weapons he needs.
Moore, even coming off a down year, would be a massive upgrade over what the Steelers have been fielding. He’s a proven route-runner with big-play ability, and he’d immediately take pressure off Pickens and Metcalf, allowing the offense to stretch the field in ways it simply couldn’t last season.
Of course, the contract is a factor. Moore’s deal isn’t cheap, and that’s likely to keep his trade value in check.
But that could work in Pittsburgh’s favor. If the Bears are looking to clear cap space and fully commit to their young trio, the Steelers might be able to land Moore for a relatively modest return-think early Day 3 pick territory.
There’s no guarantee a deal gets done, but if Moore is indeed available, this is the kind of move Pittsburgh needs to make. General manager Omar Khan has been aggressive before, and this is a golden opportunity to add a dynamic playmaker without mortgaging the future.
The Steelers have been searching for answers at wide receiver. DJ Moore might just be the one worth betting on.
