Ravens Tight End Struggles to Find Role After Long-Awaited Return

Once seen as a rising star in Baltimore, tight end Isaiah Likely now faces an uncertain future after a season marked by injuries, inconsistency, and dwindling opportunities.

Isaiah Likely’s Time in Baltimore Appears to Be Winding Down - But His Story Might Be Far From Over

For the past few seasons, Ravens fans have been waiting to see Isaiah Likely break through in a big way. The athletic tight end, drafted in the fourth round, has always had the physical tools - size, speed, hands - to be a difference-maker. But as this season winds down, it’s hard to ignore the reality: Likely just hasn’t taken that next step in Baltimore.

After missing the first three games with a foot injury, Likely returned to the field, but he hasn’t looked like the dynamic playmaker many expected. He’s averaging just 20.7 yards per game - a career low - and is on pace for his least productive season yet. He’s topped 30 receiving yards only twice all year, something he managed with far more consistency in his previous campaigns.

And the trend isn’t getting better. Over the Ravens' last two games, Likely hasn’t even seen a single target. For a player once viewed as a rising weapon in this offense, that’s a glaring stat - and a tough pill to swallow.

With free agency looming this spring, the writing’s on the wall. Mark Andrews is locked in long-term, and Likely’s role has steadily diminished. Barring a major late-season turnaround, it’s hard to envision a scenario where he’s back in Baltimore next year.

Now, it’s fair to look at the usage and wonder how much of this is about scheme. Likely has been on the field for just 57% of the team’s offensive snaps and ranks fifth on the team in targets with 31.

That’s not exactly a heavy workload for a player with his upside. But at the same time, there’s a point where the player has to make the most of his chances - and Likely hasn’t done that consistently this year.

At 6-foot-4 with a rare blend of athleticism, Likely still looks the part of a high-ceiling tight end. But this season, his route running hasn’t been as crisp, and he’s struggled to create separation. Whether that’s lingering impact from the foot injury or something else, it’s been noticeable - and concerning - especially in a contract year.

The truth is, Andrews’ extension always made Likely’s long-term future in Baltimore a bit murky. But now, with his production dipping and his role shrinking, the separation feels inevitable.

That said, don’t expect him to be without suitors. Even in a down year, Likely still offers intriguing potential - and he won’t break the bank.

It’s not the ending many hoped for when Likely first flashed his talent in purple and black. But for a fourth-round pick, the Ravens got solid value.

And Likely? He may just need a fresh start to unlock the version of himself fans once believed was coming.

Sometimes, a change of scenery is what it takes. And for Isaiah Likely, that change might be just around the corner.
