Ravens Target Rising Bears Coach as Minter Reshapes Staff

With a new head coach in place, the Ravens are setting their sights on a rising offensive mind to reshape their attack.

The Ravens are entering a new era, and they’re moving fast to shape it.

With Jesse Minter stepping in as the new head coach-after serving as the defensive coordinator for the Chargers-Baltimore is wasting no time in reconstructing its coaching staff. One of the most critical hires on Minter’s to-do list? Finding the right offensive coordinator to maximize the talent already in place, especially with a former MVP like Lamar Jackson leading the charge.

According to reports, the Ravens have officially submitted a request to interview Chicago Bears offensive coordinator Declan Doyle for the OC vacancy. It’s a notable move, and not just because Doyle is a rising name in coaching circles. Earlier in the day, Doyle reportedly declined an opportunity with the Eagles-an indication that he’s being selective and perhaps sees something special in Baltimore’s setup.

And honestly, who wouldn’t? The Ravens' offensive coordinator job comes with some serious perks.

You get Lamar Jackson at quarterback, Derrick Henry in the backfield, and a front office that isn’t shy about adding weapons through the draft. That’s a rare combination of established star power and room to grow.

For a creative play designer, it’s a dream scenario.

Doyle’s current role with the Bears is already turning heads. Though Ben Johnson was the primary playcaller in Chicago, Doyle had a significant hand in shaping the weekly gameplans.

And the results speak volumes. The Bears finished sixth in total yards per game (369.5), ninth in scoring (25.9 points per game), and third in rushing yards (144.5 per game).

That’s a well-rounded offense that could grind it out on the ground or stretch the field when needed.

Compare that to the Ravens’ offensive output this past season, and you start to see why Baltimore is looking outside the building for fresh ideas. Despite having Jackson under center, the Ravens ranked just 16th in total offense (332.2 yards per game), weighed down by a passing attack that never quite found its rhythm-finishing 27th in the league at just 175.6 yards per game.

For context, the Bears were 10th in passing at 225.1 yards per contest. That’s a significant gap and one Baltimore clearly wants to close.

But Doyle isn’t the only name on the Ravens’ radar. They’ve also put in a request to interview Lions assistant coach Scottie Montgomery, another coach with ties to Ben Johnson. Montgomery worked under Johnson in Detroit, and the Lions’ offensive resurgence in recent years has made just about anyone connected to that staff a hot commodity.

What we’re seeing from Baltimore is a clear pattern: they’re targeting coaches who have worked under or alongside Ben Johnson, one of the most innovative offensive minds in the game today. It’s a smart approach-find someone who’s already helped build a top-tier offense and give them the keys to an even more dynamic roster.

The Ravens know they’re close. The defense has been elite, and the offense has the pieces-it just needs the right architect.

Whether that ends up being Declan Doyle or someone else, this hire could define Jesse Minter’s early tenure in Baltimore. And with the AFC as competitive as ever, getting it right is more important than ever.
