The Ravens’ quarterback depth took a brutal hit Sunday, and the next man up was an undrafted rookie most fans had barely heard of before kickoff.
With Lamar Jackson leaving after his first throw of the day against the Bills and Tyler Huntley also exiting later with an injury, Baltimore suddenly found itself down to its emergency third quarterback. Both Jackson and Huntley were ruled out, forcing the Ravens to hand the offense to Joe Fagnano in a major matchup.
Fagnano is a 25-year-old rookie from Williamsport, Pennsylvania, listed at 6-3 and 230 pounds. Baltimore signed him after the 2026 NFL Draft, and until Sunday he had been buried behind Jackson and Huntley on the depth chart. Now he’s in the spotlight, and he could be asked to keep playing if both quarterbacks remain sidelined.
His rise to this moment has been a long one. Fagnano first showed up at Maine as a walk-on, earned a scholarship, and won the starting job right away in 2019. He stayed with the Black Bears for four seasons, though the 2020 and 2021 campaigns were shortened for him, leaving him with just eight combined games across those two years.
After the 2022 season, he moved on to UConn to play at the FBS level. A shoulder injury cut short his 2023 season, but he put it all together in 2025 and turned in the best year of his college career, throwing 28 touchdowns against just one interception.
Here’s how his college production stacked up:
2019 at Maine: 8 games, 1,835 passing yards, 17 passing TDs, 3 INTs
2020 at Maine: 4 games, 795 passing yards, 8 passing TDs, 1 INT
2021 at Maine: 4 games, 794 passing yards, 6 passing TDs, 2 INTs
2022 at Maine: 11 games, 2,250 passing yards, 15 passing TDs, 6 INTs
2023 at UConn: 2 games, 173 passing yards, 0 passing TDs, 1 INT
2024 at UConn: 10 games, 1,631 passing yards, 20 passing TDs, 4 INTs
2025 at UConn: 12 games, 3,448 passing yards, 28 passing TDs, 1 INT

Ravens Need Their Defensive Stars To Answer Josh Allen Fast
As the Ravens turn their attention to Buffalo in Week 8, the challenge is obvious: slowing Josh Allen before he turns broken plays into momentum for the Bills. Baltimores defense has the talent to make life difficult, but it will need its most versatile pieces to show up quickly against a quarterback who can stress every level of the field with his arm, legs and improvisation.
Kyle Hamilton, Nnamdi Madubuike and Trenton Simpson loom as the key names in that effort, each bringing a different answer to the same problem. Hamiltons range can help clean up the chaos Allen creates, Madubuike has the kind of interior presence that can force the pocket to collapse, and Simpsons speed gives Baltimore a chance to chase down plays that otherwise slip away. The Ravens do not need perfection, but they do need those three to be ready from the start. [Read more 🡒]
Ravens Emergency QB Had An Unexpected Bills Connection Sunday
The Ravens spent Sunday in Buffalo trying to piece together a quarterback plan on the fly after Lamar Jackson left early with a wrist injury and Tyler Huntley also went down with a toe injury. That chain of events pushed undrafted rookie Joe Fagnano into action, a turn few would have expected for a player who was a long shot to make Baltimores roster in the first place.
Fagnano also had a surprising off-field tie to the matchup. His wife, Lydia, once rooted for the Bills before becoming a Ravens supporter after he signed with Baltimore, and she had already been showing her backing for the team on social media ahead of the game. It made for an odd little subplot in a day that already had plenty going on for a Ravens team scrambling to survive at quarterback. [Read more 🡒]
Lamar Jacksons Return Just Created A New Ravens Nightmare
Lamar Jacksons return was supposed to steady the Ravens after a three-week absence and give the offense a much-needed lift, but it turned into another jarring setback almost immediately. Baltimore welcomed its star quarterback back into the lineup, only to watch him leave the game after suffering an injury and being replaced by backup Snoop Huntley, leaving the team to scramble again at the most important position on the field.
For a Ravens team that has already had to navigate a difficult stretch without Jackson, the timing could hardly be worse. His presence changes everything for Baltimore, from the game plan to the mood around the roster, and every scare only adds to the uncertainty hanging over a season that already has people wondering about the bigger picture, including what comes next with Jacksons contract situation.
