Ravens Suddenly Face A Derrick Henry Decision Nobody Wanted

As trade rumors swirl, the Ravens face a critical decision on Derrick Henry's future amidst a turbulent season and an uncertain path forward.

The Ravens’ season has gone from promising to precarious in a hurry, and that’s why Derrick Henry’s name has started to surface in trade chatter.

Baltimore was 4-1 and sitting near the top of the AFC not long ago. Then came four straight losses, a slide that has left the Ravens last in the AFC North at 4-5. On top of that, there’s real uncertainty about whether Lamar Jackson will return this season after thumb surgery.

The quarterback help is arriving in the form of veteran Jacoby Brissett, who is coming over from the Cardinals in a trade. But even with Brissett stepping in, the Ravens may need something close to a miracle to get their season back on track.

That’s the backdrop for the question hanging over Tuesday’s trade deadline: could Baltimore actually consider moving future Hall of Fame running back Derrick Henry?

ESPN’s Dan Graziano said before the Ravens’ loss to the Jaguars that Henry is a name to “keep half an eye on,” and pointed to the factors that could make him part of the conversation.

“Henry is turning 33 in January. He is scheduled to earn $12 million next year, and none of that money is guaranteed,” Graziano said. “If he isn’t in Baltimore’s plans beyond this year, the Ravens could find themselves fielding offers over the next week.”

There’s a difference between listening and actively shopping a player, and the source of these rumors matters. So far, there have been no reports saying the Ravens are trying to move Henry. With Brissett now in the building and a friendlier stretch of schedule ahead, Baltimore still appears to be thinking about a push this season.

Still, the logic behind a possible deal is easy to see. Henry’s age, his contract, and the challenge of trying to win without Jackson all make the situation worth watching. And with several teams around the league looking for running back help, there could be a market.

That matters because some of the same contenders pursuing Indianapolis’ Jonathan Taylor may end up empty-handed. The Giants, Broncos, Bengals, Vikings and Packers have all been reported as suitors for Taylor, and only one team can land him. The others could turn their attention to Henry instead.

For now, the Ravens have not signaled that they’re ready to move on from him. But if Baltimore decides it wants something in return, the timing may never be better than right now.

Lamar Jackson's Future With The Ravens Suddenly Feels Less Certain

Lamar Jacksons status has become one of the biggest questions hanging over Baltimore after the quarterback suffered a thumb injury that required surgery. The timing is brutal for a Ravens team built around his presence, and it adds another layer of uncertainty to a contract situation that was already tricky because of his high cap number and no-trade clause.

Around the league, the chatter has already started about what comes next if this situation drags into 2027, with some clubs doing their homework on a possible pursuit. The Ravens still have every reason to hope Jackson remains the face of the franchise, but for now his future in Baltimore feels far less settled than it did not long ago. [Read more 🡒]

Jaguars Catch A Break As Ravens Quarterback Chaos Hits Week 9

The Ravens are in the middle of another quarterback shuffle, and it lands at an awkward time for a team trying to steady itself heading into Week 9. Baltimore is finalizing a trade to bring Jacoby Brissett over from the Arizona Cardinals, a move that points to a new direction under center, but the timing means the transition will not happen right away.

For the game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, Joe Fagnano is expected to get the start, leaving Baltimore to navigate one more week before Brissett is available. The plan is for Brissett to take over beginning in Week 10, which gives the Ravens a short runway to sort out their offense while the Jaguars face a version of Baltimore that looks different than the one the team may have envisioned when the schedule was set. Ravens Make A Desperate QB Move With Playoff Hopes On The Line

With Lamar Jackson and Tyler Huntley both dealing with injuries, Baltimore moved quickly to shore up its quarterback room by acquiring Jacoby Brissett from the Arizona Cardinals. It is the kind of emergency depth move that says plenty about where the Ravens are right now, with the season suddenly hanging on how well they can stabilize the most important position on the field.

The deal gives Baltimore a veteran option as the team tries to keep its playoff hopes alive, and it has already drawn plenty of reaction from analysts weighing how much it can actually change the outlook. The timing alone makes it noteworthy, but the bigger question is how much runway the Ravens still have to make this move matter before the schedule tightens and the pressure keeps building.
