The Ravens are making strategic moves to bolster their coaching staff, with defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver bringing in a familiar face from his Miami days. Matt O’Donnell, who previously served as the assistant linebackers coach for the Dolphins, is expected to join the Ravens' coaching team.
O’Donnell played a pivotal role in Miami, working closely with standout linebacker Jordyn Brooks. Brooks had an exceptional season, leading the league in both combined and solo tackles, and earning first-team All-Pro honors. His performance last season was a testament to the effective coaching and development under O’Donnell’s guidance.
O’Donnell’s coaching journey began at Iowa, where he gained experience as a student assistant from 2012 to 2013. He then moved on to Southern Mississippi, serving as a defensive graduate assistant under Todd Monken from 2014 to 2015, before taking on a similar role at Duke from 2016 to 2017.
His NFL career kicked off with the Texans in 2018 as a defensive quality control coach. O’Donnell quickly climbed the ranks, becoming a defensive assistant in 2019 and adding the role of coordinator of football research in 2020.
In 2021, O’Donnell returned to Duke as a special teams and defensive analyst, before heading back to his alma mater, Brown University. There, he took on multiple roles, including cornerbacks coach in 2022 and defensive line coach/recruiting coordinator in 2023.
With his diverse coaching background and proven track record, O’Donnell’s addition to the Ravens’ staff is poised to bring fresh insights and strategies, further strengthening Baltimore’s defensive unit.
