Ravens Quarterback Crisis Just Forced A Move Fans Saw Coming

In a strategic move following a decisive defeat, the Ravens secure QB Jacoby Brissett from the Cardinals, spotlighting their urgent need for quarterback reinforcement.

The Ravens’ quarterback situation got a little less desperate on Friday morning.

Baltimore has completed a trade with the Arizona Cardinals for Jacoby Brissett, a move that came together after the Ravens were hammered 33-10 by the Jacksonville Jaguars on Thursday night and fell to 4-5. The deal gives the Ravens a veteran arm at a time when their depth chart has been stripped down to the bare minimum.

Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter and NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Baltimore is getting Brissett and a 2027 fifth-round draft pick from Arizona in exchange for a fourth-round pick in 2027 and a seventh-rounder in 2028.

Brissett had become available after Arizona benched him for Gardner Minshew II during its game at the Dallas Cowboys on Nov. 1. Minshew helped spark a 33-30 overtime comeback win, and Brissett was then pushed down to QB3 duties.

For the Ravens, though, the move is about survival more than anything else. Lamar Jackson may not play again this season because of the thumb injury on his throwing hand that he suffered in the loss to the Buffalo Bills on Nov.

  1. Later that same day, Tyler Huntley suffered a season-ending toe injury.

That left Baltimore with undrafted rookie Joe Fagnano starting against Jacksonville.

Fagnano, who entered the Buffalo game as Baltimore’s emergency third quarterback, completed 10 of 18 passes for 60 yards with no touchdowns and two interceptions in the wet and rainy conditions.

Brissett now steps in as the Ravens’ best healthy quarterback, and his arrival could shape what Baltimore does before Tuesday’s 4:00 p.m. ET trade deadline.

Derrick Henry has been the subject of plenty of deadline chatter, but after the loss on Thursday he suggested he doesn’t want to go anywhere before Brissett starts for the Ravens against the Los Angeles Chargers on Nov. 16.

The Chargers are 0-7 and host the 2-5 Houston Texans this Sunday.

Brissett is not viewed as a long-term answer for Jackson, who reportedly wants to stay with the Ravens “for a very long time.” For now, Baltimore appears more likely to stand pat and hope Brissett can steady things.

Ravens Secondary Nightmare Just Got Worse With Kyle Hamilton

Baltimores secondary took another hit on Thursday night when Kyle Hamilton went down with a hip injury against the Jaguars and was ruled out for the rest of the game. The Ravens were already trying to navigate a battered defensive backfield, and now they have one of their most important pieces leaving in the middle of a game they were already chasing.

Hamilton entered the night carrying a knee issue that had limited him in the lead-up, so his availability for next weeks matchup with the Chargers is suddenly in question. For a defense already stretched thin in the back end, the timing could hardly be worse, especially with the Ravens trailing and the injury list continuing to grow at a spot where they can least afford another setback. Derrick Henry Carries Extra Weight In A Huge Week For Baltimore

Derrick Henry is carrying plenty of the load for Baltimore already, and this week adds another layer to his role. He has eight rushing touchdowns this season and is tied with Marshall Faulk at 136 career rushing scores, a mark that already puts him in rare company among running backs.

The Ravens also enter the Jacksonville game in a far different spot at quarterback, with the offense turning to a rookie under center after the latest injury moves. In a week when Baltimore needs stability wherever it can find it, Henry has a chance to keep doing what he has done all season and add another milestone to a resume that keeps climbing. Jesse Minter Sounds Off As Ravens Collapse Keeps Getting Worse

The Ravens slide deepened in Jacksonville, where a 33-10 loss pushed the teams losing streak to four games and left the offense searching for any kind of stability. Undrafted rookie Joe Fagnano got the start at quarterback because of injuries, and the afternoon quickly turned into a difficult one as Baltimore struggled to sustain drives and keep the game from slipping away.

Head coach Jesse Minter did not hide his frustration afterward, pointing specifically to the second half as the part of the performance that fell short. He acknowledged the challenge of the current situation, but the bigger concern now is how quickly the Ravens can steady themselves before the seasons problems keep compounding. [Read more 🡒]
