Baltimore Ravens cornerback Marlon Humphrey found himself under the microscope after comments he made about Cincinnati Bengals star Ja’Marr Chase drew a wave of reactions from fans.
Humphrey spoke about Chase on Thursday before the teams met on Sunday, and one part of his quote set social media off. “It would be cool if I didn’t match up with him so much,” Humphrey said about Chase before praising him.
That was enough for some fans to label Humphrey as afraid of the Bengals receiver.
"I’ve never met a corner that’s scared of a receiver till today," one fan wrote.
"Ja’Marr Chase must be a nightmare matchup," another fan wrote.
More fans said that Humphrey is "scared" of facing Chase, while others called him a "loser."
When the game was finally played, the Bengals handled the Ravens 35-13. Chase finished with five catches for 62 yards and a touchdown. Tee Higgins had the bigger day, hauling in six receptions for 148 yards and a touchdown.
Humphrey ended up with three tackles and one pass defended. During the game, fans also targeted him after he gave up a big play to Higgins.
Humphrey has been in Baltimore since the Ravens selected him in the first round in 2017. The Alabama alum has made four Pro Bowls and has been named to the All-Pro First Team twice in his career.
The Ravens dropped to 4-3 with their second straight loss, while the Bengals moved to 4-2 and also won their second in a row. The AFC North remains crowded, with all four teams sitting above .500.

Ravens Suddenly Have Very Little Room For Error In The AFC
A rough stretch has pushed Baltimore into an uncomfortable spot in the AFC playoff race, with recent results around the conference leaving the Ravens staring up from outside the current bracket. After Week 7, the standings have tightened enough that every slip now matters a little more, and the margin the Ravens once had to work with has thinned fast.
The immediate concern is getting Lamar Jackson back in time for a tough upcoming run. With Buffalo and Jacksonville next on the schedule, Baltimore does not have much breathing room to absorb another setback, and the way the AFC has lined up means the Ravens may need to start stacking wins quickly just to keep pace. Ravens Have A Bigger Problem Than Their Record Right Now
The Ravens have spent most of this season fighting the same frustrating battle, and it has little to do with who is under center. After John Harbaugh was fired earlier this year and Jesse Minter took over as head coach, Baltimore has watched three separate games slip away after building double-digit leads, a pattern that has turned routine wins into painful what-ifs and left the team searching for answers beyond the standings.
Lamar Jacksons absence has been part of the backdrop, with the quarterback missing the last three games while Baltimore tried to steady itself. He has since resumed practicing, which at least gives the Ravens a path toward getting their offense back in place, but the bigger issue remains how a team that keeps getting in front keeps letting those games get away. Ravens Second-Half Collapses Put Jesse Minter Under A Brutal Spotlight
Jesse Minters first season running the Ravens defense has quickly become more complicated than the early results suggested. Baltimore has repeatedly looked organized and in control before halftime, only to see games tilt the other way after the break, and the latest swing has only sharpened the scrutiny on how this group is built and coached. The concerns go beyond one bad quarter or one missed assignment, because the defensive problems have shown up in the same painful pattern.
The Bengals game fit the script in the harshest possible way, with Baltimore protecting a 13-0 halftime lead before everything unraveled. Through seven games, the split has been stark enough to raise real questions about whether this roster and coaching staff are equipped to keep pace when opponents start adjusting, and Minter is the one left answering for it. The numbers tell one story, but the bigger one is whether the Ravens can stop bleeding points after halftime before the seasons most frustrating trend becomes their defining one. [Read more 🡒]
