Ravens Hire Former Bears Coach for Key Role with Lamar Jackson

The Ravens are turning to one of the NFL's youngest offensive minds to guide Lamar Jackson into a new era under head coach Jesse Minter.

The Baltimore Ravens are making a bold move at a pivotal time, tapping 29-year-old Declan Doyle as their new offensive coordinator. The hire signals a fresh chapter for both quarterback Lamar Jackson and new head coach Jesse Minter, as the franchise resets its coaching staff following a significant offseason shakeup.

Doyle steps into the spotlight after serving as the Chicago Bears' offensive coordinator in 2025. Though he held the title, play-calling duties in Chicago were handled by head coach Ben Johnson.

Still, Doyle’s rapid rise through the coaching ranks has turned heads across the league. At just 29, he became the youngest offensive coordinator in the NFL last season-a testament to how highly he’s regarded within coaching circles.

Before his stint with the Bears, Doyle worked as the tight ends coach under Sean Payton in Denver, where he was credited with helping develop one of the league’s more versatile tight end rooms. His background in tight end play and offensive scheming gives him a unique perspective, especially valuable in today’s evolving NFL offenses that thrive on mismatches and layered route concepts.

Doyle reportedly withdrew from consideration for the Eagles’ offensive coordinator job before accepting the Ravens' offer. He interviewed for the Baltimore position at the team’s facility last Friday, signaling mutual interest and a quick decision from both sides.

Now, he inherits the keys to an offense led by one of the league’s most dynamic quarterbacks. This will be Lamar Jackson’s fourth offensive coordinator since entering the league as a first-round pick in 2018. That kind of turnover can be tough on a quarterback, but Jackson has consistently adapted and produced, winning an MVP and leading Baltimore to deep playoff runs.

Doyle replaces Todd Monken, who spent the last three seasons as Baltimore’s offensive play-caller before accepting the Cleveland Browns’ head coaching job earlier this week. Under Monken, the Ravens evolved into a more balanced and efficient offensive unit, and Doyle will be tasked with building on that foundation while tailoring the scheme to Jackson’s strengths-namely, his dual-threat ability and quick-strike playmaking.

This hire also marks another major decision by Jesse Minter, who took over as head coach just last week following the departure of longtime leader John Harbaugh. Minter, a defensive-minded coach, is still in the process of filling out his staff and is currently interviewing candidates to replace former defensive coordinator Zach Orr.

Bringing in a young offensive mind like Doyle offers the Ravens a chance to innovate and evolve offensively, especially with a generational talent like Jackson under center. The challenge will be meshing Doyle’s vision with Jackson’s unique skill set-and doing it quickly, as the AFC remains as competitive as ever.

If Doyle can find that rhythm with Jackson and keep the offense humming, this hire could prove to be one of the more impactful coaching moves of the offseason.
