Ravens Eyeing 'Physical' Draft Pick to Boost Offensive Strength

Ravens eye Penn States Olaivavega Ioane to solidify their offensive line, highlighting strategic draft plans under new leadership.

The Baltimore Ravens are gearing up for the 2026-27 season with a fresh face at the helm-head coach Jesse Minter-and a focused mission to make a deep playoff run with star quarterback Lamar Jackson leading the charge.

With free agency winding down, all eyes are turning to the next big event on the NFL calendar: the 2026 draft, set to take place from April 23 to 25 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. This 91st annual draft is a golden opportunity for teams to infuse their rosters with new talent at a bargain.

In recent draft projections, the Ravens are eyeing Penn State's standout offensive guard, Olaivavega Ioane. Baltimore is in dire need of bolstering the interior of their offensive line, and Ioane is considered the top guard prospect in this draft class.

Ioane's draft profile paints him as an ideal fit for physical run schemes, boasting thick limbs, a sturdy frame, and impressive core strength. His technique in base blocks and double teams is top-notch, and he excels at using his hips and hands to gain leverage and move defenders when drive blocking.

However, he might face challenges due to a lack of athleticism and foot speed, which could hinder his effectiveness as a move blocker. Despite these concerns, his ability to pass set with solid posture and deliver a firm punch makes him a formidable anchor against power.

While Ioane's quickness improved in 2025, there's still some concern about his ability to handle agile interior defenders who can outmaneuver him in the run game and target his edges in pass protection. Nonetheless, his high floor and potential to start early make him an attractive option for the Ravens.

In addition to considering Ioane, the Ravens have already made moves to strengthen their defense by signing defensive end Trey Hendrickson in free agency. Adding Ioane could further solidify their lineup as they aim to dominate the upcoming season.
