The Baltimore Ravens are gearing up for a fresh start in 2026, determined to leave the struggles of 2025 behind. Last season's issues with coaching and pass rush have been front and center in their offseason strategy, and it looks like they've made some impactful moves.
Jesse Minter is now at the helm as head coach, bringing a new vision to the Ravens. Complementing this change, they've bolstered their defensive line with the signing of Trey Hendrickson on a four-year, $112 million contract. This move underscores their commitment to enhancing their defense, and they’re likely not finished yet.
The Ravens had plans to create a formidable pass-rushing duo with Maxx Crosby and Hendrickson. Although the Crosby trade didn’t pan out, Baltimore's front office remains on the hunt for another edge rusher.
Jadeveon Clowney could be a smart addition. He’s already proven his mettle in Baltimore and could be the underrated free agent they need.
Clowney's knack for getting to the quarterback is well-documented. While he might not have reached the superstar status some predicted when he came out of South Carolina in 2014, his career has been impressive. With 66.5 sacks over 12 seasons, he’s shown he knows how to make an impact.
Even at 33, Clowney is defying age expectations. His 2025 season with the Dallas Cowboys saw him rack up 8.5 sacks, and just two years ago, he was delivering similar results with the Ravens. In 2023, Clowney posted 9.5 sacks and 19 QB hits in Baltimore, proving he still has plenty left in the tank.
General Manager Eric DeCosta has hinted that the team might be done making big free agency moves, but there's still a need for pass rush support. Clowney could be a cost-effective, starting-caliber option. Spotrac estimates his market value at around $5.7 million for a one-year deal, a figure Baltimore can likely accommodate.
The Ravens’ outside linebacker group is already looking strong. With Trey Hendrickson leading the charge, Tavius Robinson showing his prowess, and Mike Green poised for a breakout in his second year, adding Clowney would only enhance their depth. Having an extra pass rusher is never a bad thing, and Clowney could be the perfect fit to complete this unit.
