The Ravens added two more pieces to their practice squad on Tuesday, bringing in offensive tackle A.J. Arcuri and tight end Nick Vannett as they continue to sort out the back end of the roster.
That pair filled out Baltimore’s initial practice squad, though the group may not stay that way for long. Veteran offensive lineman Chuma Edoga is expected to join after a successful workout on Wednesday, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler. To make that move official, the Ravens will need to open a spot Thursday, either by cutting a player or placing one on injured reserve.
Vannett, 33, gives Baltimore a familiar veteran presence at tight end. He has played for nine teams during his career and spent 18 months with the Saints in 2021 and 2022 while current Ravens offensive coordinator Declan Doyle was on Sean Payton’s staff as an offensive assistant. Doyle later became the Broncos’ tight end coach in 2023, so the two likely had plenty of overlap in New Orleans.
That connection appears to have helped bring Vannett to Baltimore, where the Ravens are light on proven tight ends. Rookies Matt Hibner, Josh Cuevas, and Ty Pezza, who is on the practice squad, showed some receiving ability in the preseason but still had work to do as blockers.
Vannett comes with a decade of blocking experience, even if his recent playing time has been limited. He appeared in 10 games last season, splitting time between the Vikings and Rams, and logged 131 total snaps.
Arcuri, 29, arrives with a different kind of background. A Rams seventh-round pick in 2022, the Michigan State product played in eight games as a rookie and two more in 2024.
During the regular season, he has only lined up at left tackle, including a Week 12 start against the Chiefs in his rookie year. In the preseason, though, he has taken snaps at left guard and right tackle, per Pro Football Focus.
That versatility fits the kind of offensive line profile Baltimore has been targeting this year, especially with Arcuri coming out of Sean McVay’s system.
Edoga, meanwhile, brings the most experience of the bunch. The 29-year-old has seven years in the league and 25 starts, with 12 of those coming over the last three seasons for the Cowboys and Jaguars. He has regular-season reps at every position except center, though most of his work has come at tackle.
If the current pecking order holds, Arcuri would likely settle in as the Ravens’ third-team left tackle behind Ronnie Stanley and Carson Vinson. Edoga would give Baltimore another option on the right side behind Roger Rosengarten and Gerad Lichtenhan.
Lichtenhan, an Oregon State UDFA in 2025, showed some promise in the preseason but also drew three penalties in Week 2 against the Vikings. Edoga’s track record could push him into the backup right tackle role immediately, though Vinson would still handle swing tackle duties on game days.
Baltimore’s tackle additions could also put Lichtenhan in danger of being the odd man out when the Ravens need to clear space for Edoga. Linebacker Carl Jones is another possibility for injured reserve after missing the preseason with an injury, which would also create room on the practice squad.
