Lamar Jackson's Ankle Just Put Baltimore's Sunday Night Plans In Doubt

As the Ravens gear up for a crucial showdown with the Falcons, star quarterback Lamar Jackson's ankle injury casts a shadow of doubt over his game-time readiness.

Questions around Lamar Jackson’s availability are hanging over Baltimore as the Ravens head toward Sunday night’s matchup with the Falcons.

Jackson sat out Wednesday’s practice because of an ankle injury, and that immediately put his status for Atlanta into question. Baltimore is 3-1 and tied with the Cleveland Browns for first place in the AFC North to star thead coacj JEsse Minter’s first season with the franchise, but the bigger storyline right now is whether the two-time MVP quarterback can get back on the field in time.

Minter said Wednesday the team is going to let the week play out before making any hard calls.

“It’s Wednesday. There’s a lot of time between now and Sunday,” Minter said.

“To Lamar’s credit, he’s getting a lot of treatment and doing things. There’ll be a point later in the week where we’ll kinda figure out where it’s at. . . .

When he’s ready to play, he’ll be ready to play.”

The situation didn’t get any clearer Thursday. During the open portion of practice, reporters noted that Jackson was not on the field as he continued to deal with the ankle issue.

Jackson wasn’t the only Baltimore player missing from the open portion of practice. The Ravens were also without linebacker Trey Hendrickson, who is dealing with a finger injury, cornerback Marlon Humphrey, who is dealing with hamstring and calf issues, and center Cam Jurgens, who is in concussion protocol.

Baltimore is set to travel to Atlanta to face the Falcons at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Sunday night.

Ravens Defense Backlash May Be Missing The Real Problem

Through four weeks, the Ravens defense has actually shown some real progress under Jesse Minter, climbing to ninth in penalty-adjusted defensive EPA in 2026 after lagging behind its previous standard in recent seasons. Even with injuries in the mix, the unit has been handling itself better than the broader backlash suggests, which is part of why the criticism around Baltimores defense can feel a little off target.

The bigger issue may be the way penalties have tilted games against them, with the Ravens taking far too many of them and drawing very few on offense. That has made the whole operation look sloppier than the defense itself has played, even if there is still work to do, especially against the run. The encouraging part for Baltimore is that the defense appears to have room to keep improving as the season unfolds. [Read more 🡒]

Ravens Face A Week 5 Matchup That Could Expose Their Biggest Problem

The Ravens head into Week 5 with a familiar defensive stress test on the schedule, and this one comes with a name that has already become central to the Falcons passing game: Drake London. Baltimores secondary has had trouble holding up against top receivers this season, and London has been a major reason Atlanta has been able to stay productive through the air. With the game on deck, the matchup looks like a sharp measure of where the Ravens stand in defending a true No. 1 target.

Defensive coordinator Jesse Minter has already pointed to the challenge of trying to consistently shadow London because of the way Atlanta structures its offense. For Baltimore, that makes this more than just another receiver-versus-secondary matchup. It is a chance to see whether the Ravens can tighten up against the kind of outside threat that has caused them problems already, or whether the same issues resurface against one of the Falcons most reliable playmakers. Ravens Just Made A Move Their Banged-Up Offense Desperately Needed

The Ravens added some needed depth up front by acquiring offensive lineman Cam Jurgens from the Eagles ahead of their Week 5 game against the Falcons, a move that comes at a time when Baltimores offense is trying to piece together its protection plan. Head coach Jesse Minter and Derrick Henry both spoke positively about the addition, pointing to the offensive line as an area that could use reinforcement as the team navigates a banged-up stretch.

Jurgens is not expected to help right away, but the timing still matters for a Ravens group that is dealing with injuries and uncertainty around Lamar Jacksons status for Sunday. Even if the new lineman does not suit up in Week 5, the trade gives Baltimore a little more flexibility as it tries to stabilize an offense that has been forced to adjust on the fly. [Read more 🡒]
