Justin Tucker’s path back to the NFL got a fresh look on Wednesday, when the veteran kicker worked out for the New York Jets as they sort through their options before the 2026 season.
The session matters because the Jets enter Week 1 with real uncertainty at the position. Jason Sanders was released before being re-signed to the practice squad, and Blake Grupe was claimed off waivers. That leaves New York with a spot that could still be up for grabs.
According to Reuters, Tucker was one of three kickers invited in for the workout. Michael Badgley and Joshua Karty also took part.
At 36, Tucker’s name still carries serious weight. He spent all 13 of his NFL seasons with the Baltimore Ravens and built a résumé that most kickers can only dream about: seven Pro Bowl selections, five first-team All-Pro honors and a Super Bowl title. His career field-goal percentage sits at 89.1%, which ranks third all-time, and his 417 made field goals are 14th in NFL history.
But the last chapter in Baltimore was a rough one. Tucker converted just 22 of 30 field-goal attempts in 2024, a 73.3% rate that marked the worst season of his career. He has not played since that year, but he has kept pushing toward a return.
His comeback has also carried off-field baggage. Baltimore released Tucker in May 2025 while the NFL investigated allegations of inappropriate behavior involving massage therapists.
Tucker denied the allegations. The league later suspended him for the first 10 games of the 2025 season under its Personal Conduct Policy.
Even so, he remains eligible to sign with an NFL team.
The Jets have not made any commitment after the workout. For now, it simply gives them a chance to see whether Tucker can still handle the job at an NFL level. For Tucker, it is another opening to show his career is not done.
New York opens the season September 13 against the Tennessee Titans, so a decision at kicker could come quickly. Whether Tucker turns this visit into a contract is still unclear, but after months away from the league, he has another door open.
