Derrick Henry Carries Extra Weight In A Huge Week For Baltimore

Derrick Henry stands on the brink of surpassing an NFL legend as he prepares to face the Jacksonville Jaguars in a crucial matchup.

Derrick Henry is on the verge of another milestone, and this one would push him past a Hall of Fame name.

When the Baltimore Ravens host the Jacksonville Jaguars on Thursday night, Henry can move into sole possession of fourth place on the NFL’s all-time rushing touchdowns list for running backs. He is currently tied with Marshall Faulk at 136 career touchdowns after scoring against Buffalo in Week 8.

Henry’s career total is built on 130 rushing touchdowns and six receiving scores. One more touchdown against Jacksonville would give him 137, and the only running backs ahead of him would be Emmitt Smith with 175, LaDainian Tomlinson with 162 and Marcus Allen with 145. All four players are in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

The timing comes with Baltimore trying to steady itself after a rough stretch. The Ravens have dropped three straight and enter Week 9 at 4-4. They’ll also be leaning on undrafted rookie Joe Fagnano at quarterback after placing Lamar Jackson and Tyler Huntley on injured reserve Thursday following the injuries they suffered against Buffalo.

“It’s the ability to run the ball,” coach Jesse Minter said Tuesday while explaining how Baltimore can support Fagnano and win this week.

Henry has been central to that plan, even if the recent production has dipped. Over the last two games, he has managed just 98 rushing yards.

Baltimore should get a boost up front, though, with rookie guard Vega Ioane expected back after missing the Buffalo game with a knee injury. Ioane practiced fully twice and carries no game designation.

There’s another milestone within reach for Henry beyond the touchdown chase. He has eight rushing touchdowns this season, and two more would give him his ninth year with at least 10 rushing scores, which would tie Tomlinson for the most in NFL history. Tomlinson hit double digits every season from 2001 through 2009.

Jacksonville, meanwhile, brings one of the league’s stingiest run defenses into the matchup. The Jaguars can reach 25 straight games without allowing any opposing player to rush for at least 75 yards, a mark that would be the third-longest streak in the Super Bowl era. The San Francisco 49ers own the top two, with runs of 27 consecutive games from 2021 through 2023 and 26 from 1989 through 1991.

Lamar Jackson's Future With The Ravens Suddenly Feels Less Certain

Lamar Jacksons status has become one of the biggest questions hanging over Baltimore after the quarterback suffered a thumb injury that required surgery. The timing is brutal for a Ravens team built around his presence, and it adds another layer of uncertainty to a contract situation that was already tricky because of his high cap number and no-trade clause.

Around the league, the chatter has already started about what comes next if this situation drags into 2027, with some clubs doing their homework on a possible pursuit. The Ravens still have every reason to hope Jackson remains the face of the franchise, but for now his future in Baltimore feels far less settled than it did not long ago. [Read more 🡒]

Jaguars Catch A Break As Ravens Quarterback Chaos Hits Week 9

The Ravens are in the middle of another quarterback shuffle, and it lands at an awkward time for a team trying to steady itself heading into Week 9. Baltimore is finalizing a trade to bring Jacoby Brissett over from the Arizona Cardinals, a move that points to a new direction under center, but the timing means the transition will not happen right away.

For the game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, Joe Fagnano is expected to get the start, leaving Baltimore to navigate one more week before Brissett is available. The plan is for Brissett to take over beginning in Week 10, which gives the Ravens a short runway to sort out their offense while the Jaguars face a version of Baltimore that looks different than the one the team may have envisioned when the schedule was set. Ravens Make A Desperate QB Move With Playoff Hopes On The Line

With Lamar Jackson and Tyler Huntley both dealing with injuries, Baltimore moved quickly to shore up its quarterback room by acquiring Jacoby Brissett from the Arizona Cardinals. It is the kind of emergency depth move that says plenty about where the Ravens are right now, with the season suddenly hanging on how well they can stabilize the most important position on the field.

The deal gives Baltimore a veteran option as the team tries to keep its playoff hopes alive, and it has already drawn plenty of reaction from analysts weighing how much it can actually change the outlook. The timing alone makes it noteworthy, but the bigger question is how much runway the Ravens still have to make this move matter before the schedule tightens and the pressure keeps building.
