Bears' Pursuit of Maxx Crosby: A Deep Dive into the Trade Talks
The Chicago Bears found themselves at the center of swirling trade rumors involving Maxx Crosby of the Las Vegas Raiders. For weeks, it seemed like Crosby might be on the move, especially with the Baltimore Ravens reportedly ready to offer two first-round picks for the standout pass-rusher. However, the deal fell through when Crosby didn't pass the Ravens' team physical.
Speaking to the media, Bears GM Ryan Poles shed some light on the situation. "We’re always going to monitor every situation," Poles noted.
"We were involved. We checked into it.
We looked to see if it made sense, had some dialogue, but I’ll just leave it at that."
While the Bears explored the possibility, it was the Ravens who came closest to meeting the Raiders' steep demands. With Baltimore stepping back, Las Vegas has now declared Crosby off the market, and the player seems content to stay put after initially requesting a trade.
Crosby is currently recovering from a meniscus repair and might not be back in action until June or July. Given this timeline, it’s unlikely any team would match Baltimore’s initial offer for the 28-year-old this offseason.
So why didn’t the Bears push harder? Poles elaborated on the team's strategy, emphasizing a balance between immediate gains and long-term success.
"We want to sustain success," he explained. "We have to be very calculated with the moves we make.
We felt like sticking with our plan going into free agency was the best thing for us."
In the end, both the Raiders and Bears seem ready to move forward, leaving behind what could have been a blockbuster trade.
