Thairo Estrada Stuns By Joining Orioles Intense Infield Battle

Veteran infielder Thairo Estrada brings experience and resilience to the Orioles, poised to make an impact amidst fierce roster competition.

Estrada's New Chapter with the Orioles: A Golden Opportunity

In Sarasota, the Orioles are gearing up to see what Thairo Estrada brings to the table as he joins the battle for an infield spot. The team will get their first glimpse of him in action on Friday against Pittsburgh in Bradenton, Florida.

Estrada, residing in nearby Tampa, is no stranger to the big leagues. With seven years under his belt, playing for the Yankees, Giants, and Rockies, he’s a seasoned pro. Last season, despite being limited to just 39 games due to wrist, thumb, and hamstring injuries, he managed a .253 average with three homers and 21 RBIs for Colorado.

“Feeling good, feeling healthy right now, thank God,” Estrada shared through a translator. “Injuries are sometimes out of your control.

The key is to focus on what you can manage. Right now, I’m healthy and eager to contribute.”

Estrada kept himself in top shape while waiting for an offer. His dedication to maintaining both offensive and defensive skills ensured he was ready when the opportunity arose.

Just after celebrating his 30th birthday, Estrada signed a minor league contract, excited to join a team brimming with potential.

With second baseman Jackson Holliday and third baseman Jordan Westburg sidelined due to injuries, the Orioles are looking for players to step up. Estrada, who’s versatile across second base, shortstop, third base, and the outfield, sees this as a chance to make a mark.

“This team has a lot of young talent,” Estrada noted. “I’m here to bring my experience and help however I can, whether it’s with my bat or defensively, and to support the younger guys.”

The competition for infield positions is fierce. Coby Mayo is transitioning back to third base, Blaze Alexander has secured a spot, and Weston Wilson, Luis Vázquez, and Jeremiah Jackson are all in the mix. Estrada’s experience, particularly in the American League East, could be his ace in the hole.

Reflecting on his time with the Giants, where he played under manager Craig Albernez, Estrada had standout seasons, hitting 14 home runs in consecutive years and stealing bases with impressive efficiency.

Estrada also draws inspiration from Orioles legend Melvin Mora, a fellow Venezuelan. “I admired the way he played the game hard and with a good bat,” Estrada said. “He’s someone I’ve always looked up to.”

As Estrada steps onto the field with the Orioles, he’s not just looking to secure a spot but to bring his wealth of experience to a team ready to make waves.
