The Orioles made a quick roster shuffle Sunday, putting outfielder Luis Robert Jr. on the 10-day injured list with left hamstring discomfort and bringing up a pair of players from Triple-A Norfolk.
Robert, who has appeared in three games since the Orioles claimed him off waivers from the New York Mets on Monday, is 2-for-11 with a home run and three RBIs. His contract situation includes a $20 million option or a $2 million buyout for 2027.
In his place, Baltimore recalled right-handed hitting outfielder Rece Hinds, who was in left field and batting sixth against the Red Sox. Hinds was acquired from the Miami Marlins for cash considerations on August 3. In 19 games with Norfolk, he hit .268 with two home runs, 14 RBIs and an .810 OPS.
“I’ve been able to get the ball rolling a little bit,” Hinds said. “Been playing five to six times a week over there, so it’s been nice.
The 26-year-old has also spent time with Cincinnati and Miami this season, batting .114 with five RBIs in 13 games.
“It’s been kind of crazy. It’s my third team this year,” he said.
“I’m getting a little groove of things now. Getting over here to play every day in Norfolk was kind of nice to get in that groove.
Baltimore also brought back right-hander Anthony Nunez from Norfolk. He’s 3-2 with a 4.29 ERA and three saves in 44 games.
To make room, the Orioles designated right-hander Albert Suárez for assignment. It’s the fifth time Suárez has been let go by the club.
He worked three innings Saturday night, giving up two runs on three hits. Across 27 games this season, Suárez is 2-0 with a 4.12 ERA and a save.
