Orioles’ Farm System: A New Era for Pitching Prospects
The Orioles’ farm system is turning heads, and for good reason. After years of their position player prospects stealing the spotlight, it's the pitchers who are now stepping up to the plate. At Triple-A Norfolk, a crop of promising arms is ready to make its mark on the Orioles’ future.
As the Tides kick off their 2026 season with a series against the Nashville Sounds, let’s dive into the roster and see what’s cooking in Norfolk.
Catchers
The Tides have a quartet of catchers: Silas Ardoin, Maverick Handley, Sam Huff, and Creed Willems. While four catchers might seem excessive, it’s Willems who stands out as the prospect to watch.
Drafted in the eighth round back in 2021, Willems is coming off a strong season at Double-A with 16 homers and a .779 OPS. Ranked as the Orioles’ #19 prospect, he’s set to test his skills at the Triple-A level.
If the Orioles need to call up a catcher, Huff or Handley, with their major league experience, are likely candidates.
Infielders
José Barrero, Ryan Noda, Bryan Ramos, Willy Vasquez, Luis Vázquez, and Weston Wilson make up the infield. While this group lacks top prospects, they bring depth and experience.
Vázquez is sidelined after a hand injury, but Wilson and Ramos, both with intriguing backstories, add versatility. Ramos, a waiver claim, stays in the fold after clearing waivers, ready to contribute when needed.
Outfielders
In the outfield, Enrique Bradfield Jr. is the standout. Ranked as Camden Chat’s #7 prospect, Bradfield’s speed and defense are already MLB-ready.
However, he’ll need to show more at the plate to secure a spot in the Orioles’ lineup. His performance at Norfolk will dictate whether he debuts as a regular starter or a defensive ace.
Reed Trimble, another name to watch, has battled injuries but remains a perfect 61-for-61 in stolen base attempts. Added to the 40-man roster, the Orioles clearly see potential in him. Meanwhile, Jud Fabian and Jhonkensy Noel add depth, with Noel occasionally showcasing his power at the plate.
Pitchers
Now, here’s where things get exciting. The Norfolk rotation is stacked with talent.
Trey Gibson, Nestor German, and Levi Wells form a formidable trio of right-handers, all homegrown by the Orioles. Gibson is on the cusp of the majors, despite a rocky debut at Triple-A last year.
He’ll be the one to watch as he takes the mound in the season opener.
Dean Kremer’s presence in Triple-A is surprising, given his MLB experience. His stay is expected to be brief, highlighting the Orioles’ improved pitching depth. Povich and Young, who had a mixed season last year, are also ready to step up if needed.
Chayce McDermott, once a top pitching prospect, is now in the bullpen. After a tough stint in the majors, he’s looking to prove himself again. Meanwhile, Jose Espada, Cameron Foster, and Jackson Kowar are climbing the bullpen ranks, ready to make their case for a call-up.
The Orioles’ farm system is buzzing with potential, particularly on the mound. As these prospects continue to develop, the future looks bright for Baltimore’s pitching staff. Keep an eye on Norfolk this season-it’s where the next wave of Orioles talent is taking shape.
