Orioles Offseason Could Put More Of This Young Core In Play

As the Baltimore Orioles enter the 2027 offseason, they face critical decisions on potential trades and signings to address their shaky rotation and outfield depth while skepticism looms over the front office's strategic intent.

The Orioles’ offseason has already turned into a roster shake-up exercise, with the front office facing decisions all over the board as the 2027 MLB offseason gets rolling.

Pitching is at the center of it. Baltimore’s list of possible departures includes Trevor Rogers, Chris Bassitt, Zach Eflin, Andrew Kittredge, Keegan Akin and Albert Suarez.

The read here is that the Orioles don’t want any of them back, though most of them are still expected to be back in some form. The bigger issue is the rotation, not the bullpen, and the belief is that Baltimore needs to land higher-end help there.

Rogers received a qualifying offer, but the expectation is that he will turn it down, find a better deal elsewhere and leave the Orioles with a compensation pick.

The position-player side is just as unsettled. Ryan Mountcastle, Luis Robert Jr., Heston Kjerstad, Leody Taveras and Yohel Pozo are all listed as hitters on the move, with the sense that Baltimore has already moved on from that group.

Mountcastle is the one name with any real history of production in Baltimore, though that comes with the note that it was “three or four years go now.” There’s also the possibility that Mountcastle and Kjerstad end up as cheap additions elsewhere who bring some pop.

On the trade and free-agent target front, the Orioles are being linked to another pitching group that includes Shane McClanahan, Eduardo Rodriguez, Brandon Woodruff, Michael King, Dustin May, Adrian Morejon, Kevin Gausman and Nick Martinez. McClanahan stands out as the top target in this view, especially as a left-hander who has handled the AL East. Woodruff is framed as a possible value play, while Morejon is viewed as a potential starter conversion candidate in the Seth Lugo mold.

Baltimore’s wish list on offense is centered on outfield help and a catcher. The names mentioned there are Byron Buxton, Seiya Suzuki, Daulton Varsho, Ian Happ, Jonah Heim and Austin Hedges.

Varsho is seen as a possible center-field fit because of his glove and his ability to give a solid at-bat, while Suzuki and Happ are the former Cubs the Orioles could try to land. At catcher, the need is tied to pairing someone with Samuel Basallo, and Heim’s switch-hitting ability is noted as a possible advantage.

There hasn’t been much concrete movement yet, but the expectation is that a lot of these names would come through trades. The Orioles are described as a team that can’t really do major free-agent contracts and prefers rentals, while also wanting everyone to know they’re open for business. Jackson Holliday and Colton Cowser are also mentioned as players who should be moved out, too, at least as far as this offseason view goes.

One final note on the pitching market: the concern is that Baltimore could end up with another version of the Tyler O’Neill contract, and that it would be a disaster again.

Orioles Offseason Could Hinge On Two Trade Fits Fans Will Debate

As the Orioles map out an offseason built around getting back into the postseason mix, the trade market is already shaping up as one of the more interesting ways they could add help. Center field and pitching stand out as the clearest needs, and a handful of realistic names have surfaced as possible fits, including Byron Buxton, Teoscar Hernandez and Reid Detmers. Each would bring a different kind of upgrade, which is part of what makes this exercise so appealing for Baltimore.

The debate is not just about who is available, but which kind of move makes the most sense for a club trying to balance immediate help with longer-term value. Some of these targets would represent a major boost if the Orioles can land them, while others would be more subtle additions that still address key roster holes. For a fan base eager to see Baltimore push forward, the real question is which of these trade paths the front office decides is worth pursuing first. [Read more 🡒]

Orioles Still Have A Dylan Beavers Question They Can't Ignore

Dylan Beavers reached the majors in August 2025 on the strength of a strong minor league season, and the Orioles had every reason to think they were getting a young outfielder who could keep growing into a regular role. Instead, the 2026 season has brought a more complicated picture, one marked by a lower on-base percentage, defensive struggles and a six-week absence after a strained oblique in May.

Even so, Beavers has not disappeared from Baltimores long-term outlook. He has shown he can deliver in big moments, including multiple walk-off RBIs, and that kind of clutch production is part of why the Orioles still view him as part of their future outfield plans. The question now is less about whether he belongs in the conversation and more about how quickly he can turn flashes into something the club can count on more consistently. [Read more 🡒]

Orioles May Be Headed For A Costly Trevor Rogers Decision

Trevor Rogers has given the Orioles enough to make this a real winter decision, which is saying something for a pitcher whose Baltimore tenure began with plenty of uncertainty. Since arriving in 2024, he has shown improvement and given the club a clearer sense of what he can still offer, even with the injury history that has followed him through his career. Now he is in free agency, and the market is already sorting itself out around him, with different sources projecting a range of contract values and possible landing spots.

Baltimore already made its first move by extending a qualifying offer, which puts the ball in Rogers court until November 17. If he accepts, the Orioles keep him on a short-term arrangement and avoid losing him for nothing. If he declines, the club is left weighing whether it can afford to let a pitcher it helped revive walk away, or whether the price tag to keep him has climbed beyond the comfort zone. [Read more 🡒]
