Félix Bautista was back on a mound, and Chesapeake had the kind of night that can turn into a footnote in a hurry.
The Baysox fell 6-5 in 10 innings to Richmond on Saturday, but the headline was Bautista’s first gametime appearance since August ’25. He was rusty, and the numbers showed it: three walks among the five batters he faced, with Richmond putting up three runs in the first inning. Tyson Neighbors came on after Bautista and added to the damage, allowing another run on a walk and a sacrifice fly.
Chesapeake did claw back. Vance Honeycutt sparked the response with a double steal in the second, taking second while Colin Tuft scored. Then came the swing from the middle of the order: Wehiwa Aloy and Aron Estrada went back-to-back to pull the Baysox even.
The finish, though, belonged to Richmond. Brock Moore gave up three runs in the 10th on a single and two walks, and Chesapeake’s last push in the bottom half came up just short.
Honeycutt drew a walk and Thomas Sosa singled home both him and ghost runner Dom Keegan, but that was as close as the Baysox got. Honeycutt, Aloy and Estrada each finished with two hits, and all three are currently OPS’ing over .800.
At High-A, Frederick was the day’s only winner, rolling past Wilmington 7-2 behind a huge strikeout effort from its pitching staff. Boston Bateman set the tone with three scoreless innings and six strikeouts, part of a night in which five Keys pitchers combined for 17 punchouts. Bateman, a 6’8” lefty, now owns a 3.63 ERA and 1.39 WHIP with 107 strikeouts in 79.1 innings at High-A this season.
The Keys’ offense did its best work in the seventh, when a five-run burst broke things open. Enddy Azocar had three hits, Ethan Anderson doubled home a run to make it 2-0, and Leandro Arias and Jordan Sanchez both left the yard. Braylin Tavera also chipped in with a run-scoring single.
Norfolk’s day in Triple-A was rough from start to finish. In the makeup doubleheader with Nashville, the Tides were no-hit in Game 1 of a 2-0 loss, with Rece Hinds’ walk with one out left keeping it from becoming a combined perfecto.
Michael Forret held things together through four scoreless innings before Nashville scored twice in the fifth on a homer, a single and a double. Cameron Weston and José Espada followed with clean innings.
Game 2 was worse. Trace Bright lasted just 1.2 innings and was tagged for five runs in the second, a frame that included two walks, four hits and a three-run homer.
Dietrich Enns gave Norfolk 2.1 solid innings after that, and Luis de León, Codi Heuer and Yosver Zulueta each followed. De León allowed a run on a walk and a double, while Zulueta gave up a walk and two singles.
Norfolk’s only run came on a double by Silas Ardoin, then a single and a run-scoring groundout from Enrique Bradfield Jr. and Jeremiah Jackson. Bradfield, Ardoin and Jud Fabian were the Tides’ lone hitters to record a hit on the day.
At Low-A, Delmarva led early but couldn’t hold it, dropping a 4-2 decision to Hickory. Stíven Martínez opened the scoring with a home run, and a throwing error by the Crawdads made it 2-0.
But Francisco Morao gave it back in the fifth, surrendering a three-run homer and then adding a fourth run on a balk. Morao, called up from the FCL in late July, now has a 4.67 ERA in just under a month at Delmarva.
Martínez finished 2-for-4 with the homer, Jhomnardo Reyes reached base three times, and Miguel Rodríguez, Carlos Sánchez and Félix Amparo each picked up a hit. Ty Head and Jaiden Lo Re went hitless.
