Alonso and Kjerstad Homer as Orioles Tie with Tigers in Thrilling Game

Kyle Bradish impresses in his spring debut while maneuvers for the Orioles' starting position begin to take shape.

Spring Training Update: Orioles' Pitching Decisions and Player Progress

As the Orioles gear up for Opening Day, manager Craig Albernaz has some crucial decisions to make regarding the starting pitcher for the March 26th matchup against the Minnesota Twins. The choice seems to be between Kyle Bradish and Tyler Rogers, both of whom have shown promising potential.

In Bradish's recent spring debut against the Detroit Tigers, he allowed two runs on three hits over two innings. Despite the 4-4 tie, there were plenty of positives to take away.

Bradish, who underwent Tommy John surgery in 2024, posted a strong 2.53 ERA in six starts last season and is expected to be on an innings limit this year. His performance could be pivotal as he aims for his first Opening Day start.

Albernaz speaks highly of Bradish, noting his potential to be an ace. "He's got the talent to lead any pitching staff," Albernaz remarked. "Spring training is a key part of his progression, and his ceiling is incredibly high."

Bradish himself was content with his performance, stating, "I was pleased with my stuff today, especially cleaning up some locations. Weak contact is always a good sign."

Meanwhile, Tyler Rogers, who had a stellar 9-3 record with a 1.81 ERA last season, is also in the mix. His strong showing in a recent outing keeps him firmly in contention.

Heston Kjerstad, after an early end to his 2025 season due to exhaustion, is feeling revitalized. "I feel really good with my swing and approach," Kjerstad said, emphasizing his focus on making adjustments and staying healthy.

On the pitching front, Brandon Young, Cameron Foster, Anthony Nunez, and Cameron Weston all had solid outings, with Weston impressively striking out four over two scoreless innings.

In unfortunate news, shortstop Payton Eeles exited the game with shoulder discomfort following a collision. Manager Albernaz praised Eeles' decision to leave the field, prioritizing his health.

Jud Fabian, a promising outfielder drafted in 2022, is working to improve his consistency after a challenging season at Triple-A. "Learning from the vets and refining my routine is key," Fabian shared, focusing on reducing his strikeouts and enhancing his overall game.

In a quirky twist, both the Orioles and Tigers sported nearly identical orange tops, with the Orioles opting for gray pants to avoid complete uniform confusion.

As the Orioles continue their spring training, they hold a record of 1-1-1 and are set to face the Atlanta Braves next. With Cade Povich taking the mound, the team is eager to build on their early momentum.
