Auburn’s offense has spent the last few seasons trying to find its footing, but Monday brought a much more encouraging label for Alex Golesh’s first Tigers group: one of the SEC’s top 10 units.
On3 slotted Auburn at No. 9 in its ranking of the conference’s offenses, putting the Tigers just behind Alabama at No. 8. For a program that has leaned on defense in recent years while offensive inconsistency kept games from being put away, that kind of placement is a meaningful early sign for what Golesh is trying to build.
The biggest reason for the optimism is Byrum Brown. The new Auburn quarterback has already become the face of the turnaround conversation on the Plains, and the numbers back up the buzz. Brown accounted for more than 4,000 total yards last season, including over 1,000 on the ground, and he now checks in at nearly 240 pounds.
His value goes beyond what he can do as a passer. In this system, Brown looks like the third piece of a rushing attack that could give defenses real problems.
Auburn is set to lean on Jeremiah Cobb, a senior returner and the lone player back from last year’s offense, along with Bryson Washington, a transfer from Baylor who brings a proven track record. With Brown in the mix, the Tigers have the makings of a three-man ground game that could force defenses to pick their poison snap after snap.
Golesh and Brown also brought in a familiar group of receivers from USF. Four of the Bulls’ top five receivers in total yards from last season are now in orange and blue, giving Auburn a group that already knows the offense and has plenty of comfort with its quarterback. Brown has also spoken highly of each of those receivers this offseason.
The one area that still raises questions is up front. Auburn’s offensive line has been pieced together after all six of its 2025 linemen moved on, either to the NFL or to other programs. That leaves some uncertainty about how well the group will hold up in the run game, even with the talent behind it.
Still, the pieces around Golesh’s offense are already drawing attention, and Auburn’s ranking suggests there’s real belief in the direction of the unit. The Tigers sit in the lower half of the SEC for now, but if the chemistry shows up early, that number could climb fast.
