Johni Broome’s path to the Philadelphia 76ers is suddenly looking shaky, and Auburn has also lined up a preseason trip that will send Steven Pearl’s team overseas for a pair of games against KK Mega Basket in Mykonos.
According to Spotrac’s Keith Smith, “The Philadelphia 76ers have been looking for a trade for Johni Broome. If they can’t find one, the team may waive and stretch Broome’s salary. ...
Kentavious Caldwell-Pope won't clear waivers until tomorrow. The Sixers have time to work out the move to clear room to sign KCP.”
Broome had been expected to land in Philadelphia after the Sixers added LeBron James, but his standing now appears uncertain. He’s part of a crowded roster picture, one that got tighter when Philadelphia brought in big man Ariel Hukporti from the New York Knicks in free agency. Broome’s limited action during the 2025-26 regular season didn’t help his case, and he brings less athletic upside than Hukporti or Adem Bona as a backup for Joel Embiid.
That makes the idea of Broome developing under LeBron and sharing the floor with one of the league’s best passers a lot less likely. It also means former Alabama guard Labaron Philon will get that opportunity after Philadelphia took him No. 22 in the 2026 NBA draft.
For Broome, the next stop in his pro career is still up in the air. After a strong Summer League showing, he should still draw interest in free agency.
Back on the Auburn side, 247Sports’ Nathan King reported that the Tigers will play Serbian pro team KK Mega Basket on Aug. 8 and 9. CEO Lea Miller-Tooley of Complete Sports Management, which is organizing the event, told Auburn247 on Monday that both games will be held at P. Chanioti Ano Mera Indoor Hall in Mykonos and will tip at 7 p.m. local time.
The trip gives Auburn another overseas tune-up, four years after a visit to Israel that included three games. Steven is following in his father Bruce’s footsteps by taking the roster abroad for extra reps.
It’s not clear whether the KK Mega Basket matchup was set before Filip Jović left Auburn for UCLA after entering the transfer portal in April, though the connection makes the pairing an obvious one. The logistics of a trip like this take time, from passports to travel planning to security and everything else behind the scenes.
Auburn is also following Kentucky’s lead in taking on KK Mega Basket; the Wildcats played the Greek team in 2018. Michigan, the defending champion, is also scheduled to face KK Mega Basket in August.
For Pearl’s rebuilt group, the trip offers a chance to stack up well against a team other programs have already seen.

Auburns quarterback board already has a familiar in-state name on it, and Sam Sollie has now put a date on his next step. The Gadsden City High School passer, a Class of 2028 prospect, said he will make a verbal commitment on Aug. 8 after spending the offseason visiting Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Mississippi State and Tennessee.
For Auburn, the interest is easy to understand. Rivals views Sollie as a three-star quarterback and expects him to end up in the SEC, which makes every visit and every impression matter a little more in a race that has already drawn several major programs.
