Former Auburn Receiver Leaves Fans Worried About What Comes Next

Cam Coleman's promising first season with Texas is put on hold by a worrying shoulder injury sustained in their triumph over Ole Miss.

Texas’ 34-27 win over Ole Miss came with a price, and one of the biggest hits was to former Auburn receiver Cam Coleman.

Coleman exited early in the third quarter Saturday night with what appeared to be a shoulder injury. Texas coach Steve Sarkisian didn’t have a detailed update afterward, but he did make clear the scene wasn’t encouraging for either Coleman or left tackle Trevor Goosby, saying that “neither of them looked very good,” per Burnt Orange Nation.

Before leaving, Coleman had only one catch for 12 yards. The Phenix City native transferred to Texas during the offseason, and his night had already included a rough moment well before the injury.

Early in the game, Coleman dropped a deep ball from Arch Manning that looked like a sure touchdown. The play stood out because Manning put the throw right where it needed to be, but Coleman couldn’t come down with it.

Coleman arrived at Texas after two years at Auburn, where he caught 76 passes for 1,044 yards and 11 touchdowns. This season, he has 21 receptions for 348 yards and six touchdowns.

Texas was dealing with more than just Coleman’s exit. Goosby also went down, and the Longhorns were already playing without star edge rusher Colin Simmons and running back Hollywood Smothers. Even with those absences, Texas had enough firepower to get by the seventh-ranked Rebels (5-2, 3-2 SEC), thanks to Raleek Brown’s 157 rushing yards and Manning’s 212 passing yards, one touchdown through the air and two more on the ground.

Auburns Florida State Loss Suddenly Looks More Complicated

Auburns preseason meeting with Florida State looked ugly enough in the moment, but the details from that exhibition are giving the loss a little more context. Florida State got a major boost from freshman center Marcis Ponder, who controlled the paint with 21 rebounds, 13 points and three blocks in just 25 minutes, while the Seminoles also erased a deficit with a second-half comeback.

Alex Steens return only adds to the sense that Florida State may have more size and depth up front than Auburn first saw that night. Steen became eligible to play after a temporary injunction, and with him back in the mix, the Seminoles suddenly have more reasons to feel good about their frontcourt as the season gets going. Auburns Secondary Just Sparked A Bigger Concern Than One LSU Loss

Auburns defense came out of the 38-17 loss to LSU with more questions than answers, and the biggest concerns were in the secondary. The Tigers gave up 387 passing yards to quarterback Sam Leavitt, their most since the 2025 season opener, while LSU wide receiver Jackson Harris kept finding room all night with nine catches for 178 yards and two touchdowns.

One of the most damaging plays came on a 70-yard touchdown against Auburn cornerback Rayshawn Pleasant, a snapshot of how quickly LSU was able to turn routine snaps into explosive ones. Auburn coach Alex Golesh pointed to missed tackles and short passes that stretched into longer gains as the key problems, and for a defense already looking for answers, the film left little doubt that this was bigger than one bad result. Alex Golesh Faces A New Auburn Blame Question Up Front

Auburns issues up front were hard to miss in the loss to LSU, where the offensive line gave up seven sacks and 12 tackles for loss and left the entire offense fighting uphill. The protection problems hit both the passing game and the run game, and they quickly turned into one of the defining reasons the Tigers never found much rhythm.

Alex Golesh said the next step is to go back through the film and sort out why the quarterback was holding the ball longer at times, because the blame on a night like that does not sit with one player alone. LSU edge rusher Princewill Umanmielen kept putting pressure on Auburn tackle Jacob Strand, a constant reminder that the Tigers answers in pass protection and overall line play still need some work before the offense can settle in.
