ESPN’s “College GameDay” kicked off Saturday in Baton Rouge with country music star Lainey Wilson joining the panel to hand out picks for the week, conference races and the CFP national champion.
The group was united on the three marquee game picks from the day: LSU over Clemson, Alabama over East Carolina and Auburn over Baylor.
Nick Saban liked LSU’s talent level against Clemson.
“Clemson will be much improved, but LSU has too much firepower,” he said, pointing to Lane Kiffin’s defense and quarterback Sam Leavitt.
“If they can run the ball and create balance, they will be one of the best team’s in the country.”
Pat McAfee’s LSU pick drew a loud reaction from the Baton Rouge crowd, while Wilson also backed the Tigers.

On Auburn-Baylor, Desmond Howard said he wanted to lean the other way before settling on the Tigers.
“I want to go Baylor so bad,” he said. “(Baylor coach) Dave Aranda is on the hot seat.
They need to get off to a fast start. They got the quarterback DJ Lagway from Florida, but I like (Auburn coach) Alex Golesh.
I’m going with Auburn in a close one.”
Saban also sided with Auburn, saying Byrum Brown could be the piece that changes the offense.
“Auburn’s had a pretty good team, but they’ve been quarterback poor for several years,” the former Alabama coach said. “I think Byrum Brown may give them the opportunity to take the next step. I’m picking Auburn.”
For Alabama, Saban said he trusts the defense and is “excited to see Keelon Russell as a quarterback.”
The show also featured a quick back-and-forth with Wilson after she joked about a past Tuscaloosa appearance.
“I will say I played Tuscaloosa a few years ago and like 20 people showed up to my show, and I wanted to be mad as hell at all of them, but I’m like I need to sell tickets in Tuscaloosa,” Wilson said.
“I’ll help you with that, Saban joked.
The panel’s conference picks split in a few places, but Miami was the clear favorite in the ACC, with Howard, Saban, Wilson and Herbstreit all picking the Hurricanes. McAfee went with UNC.
In the Big 12, Howard and Wilson chose BYU, while Saban and Herbstreit picked Texas Tech. McAfee selected West Virginia.
The Big Ten race was divided as well: Howard, Wilson and Herbstreit went with Oregon, Saban chose Ohio State and McAfee picked Indiana.
In the SEC, Howard backed Texas, Saban and McAfee picked Georgia, Wilson chose LSU and Herbstreit also went with Georgia.
For the Group of 6, Howard and McAfee selected Memphis, Saban and Wilson went with Boise State and Herbstreit picked Navy.
The national title predictions covered a range of matchups. Howard picked Texas over Notre Dame.
Saban chose Miami over Texas. Wilson went with LSU over Miami.
McAfee selected Indiana over Ole Miss. Herbstreit picked Notre Dame over Indiana.
The panel also settled on Auburn over Baylor, Alabama over East Carolina and LSU over Clemson, with Herbstreit making no pick on LSU-Clemson.

Auburn's Offensive Line Battle May Be Smaller Than Fans Expected
Auburns offensive line competition has drawn plenty of attention this spring, but Alex Golesh made it sound like the picture is a little less crowded than some fans may have expected. The Tigers have eight linemen who have earned the right to play, yet Golesh said the staff is not looking to rotate bodies simply to keep people involved. If the group up front is holding up well, the starting five can stay put.
The spot still worth watching is left guard, where Auburn continues to evaluate options as camp moves along. Goleshs message was that the offensive line will be judged by performance and by the demands of each game, not by any preset plan to shuffle players in and out.
