Chas Nimrod's Tennessee Return Gives Auburn Extra Juice

Amidst nostalgic reunions and a growing Auburn bond, Chas Nimrod eagerly prepares for a meaningful matchup against his former team, Tennessee.

Auburn receiver Chas Nimrod is heading back to familiar ground this Saturday, and the matchup at Tennessee comes with a heavy dose of old faces.

For Nimrod, the trip to Rocky Top is less about drama and more about a return to the place where his college career started. He spent 2022 through 2024 at Tennessee, and he said the reunion carries nothing but good feelings.

“I’m excited to go back,” said Nimrod, who played for Tennessee from 2022-24. “It will be really cool to see my old coaches.

On my side, there’s no bad blood. They poured everything into me and gave me a very strong foundation and an understanding of what it takes to have success.

It will be cool to play in front of everybody.”

Auburn has put Nimrod in the hands of people who know that Tennessee world well. His position coach, Auburn associate head coach Kodi Burns, coached receivers in Knoxville in 2021, the same year Nimrod was a senior at Bentonville High School in Arkansas.

Burns said the game doesn’t need any extra emotional buildup for his receiver.

“I don’t know that this is any bigger for Chas than any other game,” Burns said. “That’s one school that he had a stop at where he was able to grow as a young man and as a player. Now, he’s here at Auburn and it’s the next-game mentality.”

There’s even more Tennessee overlap on Auburn’s sideline. Head coach Alex Golesh recruited Nimrod to Knoxville in 2021 and coached him in 2022 during Nimrod’s redshirt season, when Golesh was Tennessee’s offensive coordinator.

Golesh’s Tennessee offense led the nation in 2022, a season that helped open the door to his first head coaching job in 2023 at South Florida. Nimrod followed him there two years later and produced 23 catches for 466 yards and three touchdowns in an injury-shortened 2025 season in Tampa.

“It will be full circle, because there are a lot of people on our staff who were there,” Nimrod said. “I’m excited to get back in that atmosphere and put out what I’ve always been capable of.”

Auburn Suddenly Has A Real Opening To Flip Its SEC Outlook

Saturday at Neyland Stadium suddenly looks a little less straightforward for Tennessee, and that matters plenty on the Auburn side. College football analyst Josh Pate raised real concern about how the No. 17 Volunteers will handle Auburn after the season-ending injury to starting guard Wendell Moe, a blow that could leave Tennessee shorthanded up front and under more pressure than expected against a Tigers defense looking for a foothold.

For Auburn, the path to turning this into a meaningful SEC moment still runs through the basics. The Tigers need a cleaner run game and steadier quarterback play from Byrum Brown, who has been inconsistent, especially with Tennessee bringing strong sack numbers into the matchup. If Auburn can make the Vols uncomfortable and protect its own offense long enough to keep the game in reach, the door opens for a result that could change how the rest of the conference race looks. Auburn Faces A Brutal Test That Could Shape Its Season

Auburn heads into a demanding stretch with the kind of schedule that can quickly change the mood around a season. The matchup analysis around the SEC this week puts the Tigers in the middle of a slate that also includes Alabama, Mississippi State and Tennessee, with each game carrying the sort of uncertainty that has made this year so hard to read. Beyond the predictions, the bigger takeaway is how little margin there is right now for a team trying to find its footing against opponents with their own strengths and flaws.

For Auburn, the interest is less about one isolated result than what these games could say about where the program stands in the leagues shifting hierarchy. The broader outlook around the conference suggests that individual matchups, player comparisons and small edges may decide these contests more than reputation does, which is why this run matters so much. If Auburn can navigate it well, the season conversation changes quickly, but the full shape of that test is still the part everyone is watching. [Read more 🡒]

Auburn Faces Its First Real SEC Test With Plenty On The Line

Auburns first SEC road trip of the season brings an immediate stress test, and it comes against a ranked Tennessee team in one of the leagues toughest environments. The Tigers head to Neyland Stadium with the matchup carrying a familiar edge for head coach Alex Golesh, who used to run Tennessees offense under Josh Heupel before taking over in Auburn.

The setting adds another layer, with Tennessee listed as a 6.5-point favorite and rainy weather expected to shape how the game unfolds. For Auburn, this is the sort of early conference road game that can say a lot about where the Tigers stand, and it also gives Golesh a reunion with a program and coach he knows well. [Read more 🡒]
