Chas Nimrod Is Giving Auburn Fans A Reason To Believe Again

Chas Nimrod's rapid rise through Auburn's football ranks suggests he's poised to become a game-changing force on the field.

Chas Nimrod is starting to draw attention well beyond Auburn, and the buzz has only grown through fall camp.

On3 recently put the Tigers receiver on its list of 20 under-the-radar players from camp, a nod that reflects how much he has stood out since arriving on the Plains. Pete Nakos wrote that Nimrod is "Not the most heralded transfer in the Tigers' portal class, Auburn is expecting big things for Nimrod's return to the SEC.

A former Tennessee and USF transfer, Nimrod has shown off his speed and understanding of Auburn's offense to date in fall camp. He has 52 career catches for 781 yards.

A source told On3 that Nimrod has "huge upside" and confidence because he has "produced in this league."

That only tells part of the story, though. Nimrod is not just another name in the room.

Before his injury at South Florida last season, he led the team in receiving and was viewed as the clear top option, even potentially over Keshaun Singleton. That kind of production is a big reason there’s real belief he could take on a similar role again in 2026.

The praise has been rolling in from Auburn’s staff for a while now. After the Tigers’ second scrimmage on Wednesday, head coach Alex Golesh singled Nimrod out as one of the standouts.

Offensive coordinator Joel Gordon was just as direct before camp even got underway. "The first guy that stands out is Chas," Gordon said about South Florida transfer Chas Nimrod.

"He's the most experienced guy in the room. He's one of the most physically gifted guys in the room.

He's one of the smartest guys in the room."

Auburn does have depth at receiver, but Nimrod and Singleton are the names sitting at the top of the group. Both have the kind of profile that gives them a real shot at 1,000 receiving yards this season.

Nimrod, for his part, isn’t getting caught up in the outside noise. "It's cool that they say that, but me personally, I don't like to hear that kind of stuff," Nimrod said. "I like to just stay hungry, unsatisfied."

With Auburn set to open Week 1 in Atlanta against Baylor in a little more than two weeks, the questions around how the receiver rotation will shake out are still there. A number of players are making the jump from the group of six to the SEC, including Nimrod. But the one thing Auburn already seems sure of is this: he belongs, and he looks capable of being one of the keys to what could be a strong offense in Alex Golesh’s first season on the Plains.

Auburns Pass Rush Just Took A Hit At BUCK

Auburns pass rush depth took a significant blow before the season even gets rolling, with linebacker-hybrid EDGE Jakaleb Faulk sidelined after a collarbone injury. Coach Alex Golesh said the issue required a procedure, and the Tigers now have to move forward without one of their more intriguing pieces at the BUCK spot for the time being.

Da'Shawn Womack is slated to step into the starting role in Faulks place, and Auburn will lean on several other defenders to absorb the snaps and keep the position productive. There is still hope Faulk can make it back late in the year, but for now the Tigers are planning as if he will be unavailable throughout the regular season, leaving a notable hole in a spot that depends on disruption and depth. Auburn Fall Camp Is Starting To Reveal Who Golesh Trusts Most

Auburns second scrimmage of fall camp offered a better look at which players are starting to separate themselves in Alex Goleshs eyes, and the first-year coach made it clear several defenders helped themselves. Golesh singled out Dallas Walker, DaShawn Womack, Jared Smith, Eric Winters, Kaleb Harris and Anquon Fegans after the workout, while Byrum Brown, Keshaun Singleton and Chas Nimrod also drew praise on the offensive side.

For a staff still sorting out trust and depth, those kinds of early camp impressions matter, especially with a season opener against Baylor set for Sept. 5, 2026. Fall camp is where roles begin to harden, and Auburns latest scrimmage seems to have started separating the players Golesh leans on from the ones still trying to climb into that group. [Read more 🡒]

Auburns Defense Is Already Facing Heat After Camp Scrimmage

Auburns defense has spent much of preseason camp under a sharper spotlight than the coaches probably wanted, with recent scrimmage work exposing the kinds of cleanup issues that tend to show up quickly once the pads come on. Alex Golesh, DJ Durkin and Coleman Hutzler have made tackling and technique a daily point of emphasis, and the message around the group has been straightforward: the standard has to rise before the season does.

Players have taken the hard coaching in stride, treating it as part of the process rather than a sign of panic, even if the early returns have left room for concern. The staff has been pushing development as much as immediate results, and the way Auburn responds in the next stretch of camp will go a long way toward showing whether the defense is simply still sorting itself out or facing a deeper adjustment ahead of opener week.
