Byrum Brown isn’t promising Auburn a dream season. He’s promising the kind of daily approach that gives a team a real chance to become one.
That was the message Tuesday at SEC Media Days, where Brown laid out his version of success for his first year in the league. For him, it starts long before kickoff and has little to do with chasing guarantees.
“A successful season looks like taking each and every game, preparing to our absolute best and going out there and playing,” he said. “We don't control the outcome.
We just control our process that leads to the outcome. Hopefully it's a favorable one, but it's just working each and every day, and that started in January.
And it's continuing now, going to continue into fall camp. And we can't wait to strap it up in fall camp, strap it up for the first week against Baylor and go play.”
That outlook fits neatly with what Alex Golesh has been saying about Auburn’s bigger picture. The Tigers have not finished with a winning season since 2020, and Golesh’s stated goal for 2026 is to build a foundation rather than force a contender overnight. Brown, though, is in his final year of eligibility, so he won’t be around to see the full payoff if that foundation turns into something bigger down the road.
Still, his role in the present is obvious. Auburn wants wins, and Golesh needs them.
Brown is right in the middle of the offense, with the ability to affect games through both the air and on the ground. Last season at USF, he threw for more than 3,000 yards and ran for over 1,000, production Auburn is hoping he can carry into his SEC debut.
He’ll have more help this time around, too. The rushing attack gets a boost from Auburn returner Jeremiah Cobb and Baylor transfer Bryson Washington, giving Brown a stronger supporting cast than he had a year ago.
So while Brown isn’t talking about running the table in 2026, he is talking about showing up ready every week. For Auburn, that kind of mindset is part of the foundation too.
