Florida may be heading into its SEC opener with one of its top receiving options still on the fence.
Head coach Jon Sumrall said Monday that senior wide receiver Eric Singleton Jr. is questionable for Saturday’s matchup with Auburn as he continues to work back from an ankle injury. Singleton picked up the injury in Florida’s Week 1 win over Florida Atlantic and sat out the Gators’ Week 2 victory over Campbell.
Sumrall said Singleton is no longer in a boot, but he was “very limited” at Monday morning’s practice.
Asked about Singleton and defensive end Emmanuel Oyebadejo, Sumrall said both players were out of the boot and on the field, though only in a limited capacity.
“Both of them had no boot,” he said, via On3. “Both of them are out of the boot.
They were in the boot through Saturday. They’re both out of the boot.
Both were out at practice at today. Both were very, very limited today at practice but were there.
“We’ll know through the week. I’m not BSing you.
I think I told you early last week I thought they were very doubtful. This week I’d say they’re questionable.
Is there a shot? Yes.
Am I ready to go they’re gonna play? No, because I can’t promise you that.”
Singleton’s absence would matter. He was expected to be part of Florida’s passing game after reuniting in Gainesville with former Georgia Tech offensive coordinator Buster Faulkner, who coached him at Georgia Tech in 2023 and 2024.
Auburn already knows what Singleton can do. He played on the Plains in the 2025 season and led the team with 58 catches while finishing second with 534 receiving yards.
The Florida-Auburn game will be the SEC opener for both teams. The first official SEC availability report is due Wednesday at 7 p.m. CT.
Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. Saturday at Jordan-Hare Stadium, with the game airing on ESPN.
