Yes, Alex Golesh’s team is built to run the football in year one. That part is clear.
But if Auburn’s offense is going to separate itself in 2026, the passing game may be the piece that changes everything. That’s where Joel Gordon comes in, and he’s already seen steady progress from a group that knows how to work within his system.
Gordon and Byrum Brown helped South Florida find some success through the air a year ago, and now that partnership is back in the Southeastern Conference with Auburn. The receivers around them - Keshaun Singleton, Chas Nimrod and Jeremiah Koger - have given the Tigers a passing game that has improved from spring to summer and now into preseason camp.
Gordon said the key has been simple: get those veterans in position and let them make plays.
"For that group specifically, it was just making plays," Gordon said of the veteran wide receivers. "Those three guys have played in this offense before and played in games.
They know what it looks like. They just took steps forward every single day understanding that, 'hey, when the ball comes my way I'm playing against somebody good on the other side of the ball and I've got to make plays and be more consistent.'
I think what you saw from that group was there are some young guys in that group that have never played a snap of college football that were able to just follow their lead. Keshaun had a really good camp.
That veteran presence has mattered because it has raised the standard for the younger players around them. The result, Gordon said, has been a group that is showing up more often when the ball is in the air - and doing it with more consistency than before.
