The basketball version of the Alabama-Auburn rivalry got a head start Thursday night, and the first-look box score came with Alabama ahead 44-41 at halftime in Birmingham.
It was an exhibition, sure, but there was still plenty to sort through for both SEC programs as they work toward the regular season. Alabama is trying to build around returning Aden Holloway and Amari Allen while preparing for a rugged conference slate. Auburn, meanwhile, is looking for a stronger second season under Steven Pearl after a difficult year in spots last season.
The Crimson Tide got a strong offensive half from Qayden Samuels, who led the way with 14 points on 4-of-11 shooting. He also knocked down two 3-pointers and went 4-for-4 at the line.
Keitenn Bristow added 11 points, five rebounds and two blocks, while Tarris Bouie filled the stat sheet with six points, six rebounds, two steals and a block. Brandon Garrison chipped in six points and three rebounds, and Amari Allen added three points with three steals.
Auburn had a balanced scoring effort, led by Kevin Overton’s eight points. Narcisse Ngoy was efficient in his minutes, scoring eight points on perfect 3-for-3 shooting, while Caleb Williams finished with seven points. Tahaad Pettiford had six points and three rebounds, and Bukky Oboye posted six points and six rebounds.
On the defensive side, Thomas Dowd stood out for Auburn with five rebounds, two steals and two blocks, even though he didn’t score. Blake Muschalek and Adam Olsen each added three points off the bench.
Here are the first-half stats from Thursday night’s exhibition between the two rivals.

Auburn Just Got An Uncomfortable Week 8 Reality Check
Week 8 brings another round of scoreboard watching and spread picking, and Auburn is right in the middle of the conversation again. AL.coms sports staff laid out its predictions for the weekend slate, including the Tigers game, in a piece that underscores just how unpredictable this part of the season can be. With rankings and standings still shifting from week to week, the Auburn picture is getting judged not just by wins and losses, but by how it stacks up against expectations.
The picks around Alabama and Auburn also show how quickly the tenor of a season can change in college football, where one result can reshape the way a team is viewed the next Saturday. For Auburn, the uncomfortable part is that the spotlight is staying fixed on whether the Tigers can meet the spread and keep pace with the broader race around them. Even in a week built around predictions, the margin for error feels tight, and the next game carries plenty of weight. [Read more 🡒]
Auburn Suddenly Has A Real Shot At A Five-Star Pass Rusher
Marylands decision to move on from coach Mike Locksley has immediately sent ripples through the transfer market, and Auburn is one of the programs worth watching closely. The Tigers were heavily involved in the recruitment of Zion Elee, the five-star edge rusher now at Maryland, and they also have ties to his former high school, which gives them a familiar foothold if he decides to explore a new home.
For Auburn, the timing matters. Elee has long been viewed as one of the more intriguing pass-rush prospects in the country, and a possible transfer would put the Tigers in position to chase a player who fits a major need in the future. Nothing has been confirmed yet, but with his situation now in flux, Auburn suddenly looks like a legitimate landing spot heading toward the 2027 season. [Read more 🡒]
