AUBURN, Ala. - The No. 5 Auburn Tigers showcased their offensive prowess with a commanding 17-2 victory over UAB, extending their winning streak to seven games at Plainsman Park. Auburn’s bats were on fire, delivering 17 hits, including four doubles and four home runs, in a game that highlighted their offensive depth and teamwork.
Head coach Butch Thompson praised the team’s collective effort, emphasizing the importance of contributions from every part of the lineup. “It wasn't just one person,” Thompson noted.
“For us to play good baseball, it has to be all of us. That was the story of the night - how we played offense as a group.”
Eric Guevara led the charge with a perfect 4-for-4 performance. Auburn’s top five hitters combined for an impressive 11-for-19, tallying 12 runs, three homers, and nine RBIs. Eight of the nine starting players drove in at least one run, showcasing the lineup’s depth.
Auburn (14-2) came out swinging, putting up four runs in the first inning and maintaining the pressure with consistent scoring in each of the first five innings. Chase Fralick got things started with an RBI fielder’s choice, followed by Guevara’s RBI single. The McCraine brothers added to the tally, with Brandon hitting a double and Mason driving in a run with a groundout.
UAB (10-7) managed two unearned runs after a passed ball and a fielding error in the second inning, but Auburn quickly responded. Fralick’s fifth home run of the season added two more runs, keeping the momentum firmly with the Tigers.
The third inning saw Auburn matching a season high with five runs. Chris Rembert’s double brought in two, and Guevara launched a 414-foot home run, marking his fourth homer in seven games and extending his RBI streak to eight games. Bub Terrell followed with a solo shot, marking the duo’s second back-to-back homers of the season.
Auburn’s offensive onslaught continued with Ethin Bingaman’s RBI double in the fourth and a five-run explosion in the fifth. Mason McCraine contributed a sacrifice fly, and Lucas Steele capped the scoring with a grand slam.
On the mound, Andreas Alvarez (2-1) delivered a solid performance, allowing just two unearned runs over five innings. LJ Cormier and Connor Gatwood provided strong relief, with Cormier striking out the side in the sixth and Gatwood pitching a scoreless seventh.
This victory not only extended Auburn’s winning streak but also highlighted the team’s ability to perform as a cohesive unit, making them a formidable force as the season progresses.
