Auburn Suddenly Has A Real Opening In Athens Saturday

With key Georgia players sidelined, Auburn eyes an opportunity to upset the odds at Sanford Stadium.

Georgia’s injury list is starting to tilt the Week 7 matchup with Auburn in a way the Tigers probably can’t ignore.

The latest update brought more concern for the Bulldogs, with safety KJ Bolden downgraded to questionable. Georgia has already ruled out safety Tyriq Green and outside linebacker Darren Ikinnagbon, leaving the defense thinner than it wants to be heading into the Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry in Athens.

Bolden’s status is the biggest one to watch. He’s been Georgia’s best defensive back, and his availability matters in a game where every little edge can shape the night. The Bulldogs are already short-handed on that side of the ball, and now they may be without another key piece.

The back end of the defense is not the only area taking hits. Georgia is also missing offensive help, with receiver Isiah Canion and several running backs set to sit out against Auburn. That’s a notable chunk of production gone from a unit that usually prides itself on depth.

There was also a moment from Georgia’s 20-17 win over Alabama this past Saturday that put Bolden in the spotlight for a different reason. Speaking to WSB-TV’s Zach Klein, he addressed the play that ended with no pass interference call, and his comments made clear he understood why Alabama fans were livid.

“He was staring down the receiver so I was like, the ball must be going over here,” Bolden said to WSB-TV's Zach Klein. “I didn’t like the position Braylon (Conley) was in, our cornerback, so I had to make a quick decision to go over there, try to save the day, just try to get the ball out, even if we get pass interference, as long as they don’t catch the touchdown - I was like we just got to get the ball down.

“I feel like I got there close, it could go any way, so I was looking around, there’s a lot of refs on the field, none of the refs threw a flag, then it’s not P.I. I’m not going to lie, if they did that to us, I would want them to call pass interference."

That call was the one many Tide fans pointed to after the game at Bryant-Denny Stadium as proof they got the short end of the whistle.

Even with Auburn dealing with its own issue - star linebacker Xavier Atkins is out after a suspension that Alex Golesh clearly viewed as a culture decision - Georgia’s injuries are enough to give the Tigers a reason to believe this could be more interesting than expected.

Still, the challenge is obvious. Kirby Smart’s teams are known for finishing games the hard way, and taking a win in Sanford Stadium is a heavy lift under normal conditions. With Georgia banged up on both sides, Auburn may have at least a crack to keep this one from getting away early.

Auburn Fans Suddenly Have A Bigger Program Concern Than One Bad Week

Auburn has had plenty to sort through in a rough stretch, and the latest headline to land on campus has nothing to do with the basketball floor. Banana Ball announced Auburn as the site for its opening weekend, an eye-catching choice that immediately stirred up mixed reactions among fans trying to make sense of the schools latest news cycle.

All of it is arriving while the basketball program is already under a brighter spotlight after an exhibition loss to Florida State, with questions lingering about how the team is playing and where the coaching staff fits into the picture. And with Benko also in the mix in connection to Auburns business operations and NIL efforts, there is a lot more than one bad night pushing the conversation around the program right now. Ole Miss Fans Have Every Right To Be Furious About Week 7

Week 7 is setting up as one of those Saturdays SEC fans circle on the calendar, only to realize they may spend most of it flipping between screens. Auburns trip to Georgia is in the same kickoff window as Alabama at Tennessee and Missouri at Ole Miss, creating a crowded slate of high-profile games that will all get going at once. For viewers, its the kind of scheduling jam that turns a big day into a constant compromise.

The loudest complaints have centered on Missouri at Ole Miss, which many around the league felt deserved a bigger national stage than the SEC Network. For Auburn fans, the overlap matters too, because their game at Georgia is part of the same traffic jam of attention, and there will be no easy way to keep up with everything else happening elsewhere in the conference. It is the sort of weekend that leaves fans arguing less about matchups and more about who decided they should all be watched at the same time. [Read more 🡒]

Auburn Heads To Georgia With Very Little Margin For Error

Auburn comes out of the bye week staring at one of the toughest assignments on its schedule, a trip to face No. 1 Georgia with very little room to work with. The Tigers already know the margin is thin, and the challenge only gets steeper with Xavier Atkins away from the team and the defense missing a key piece as it tries to hold up against one of the nations most talented rosters.

The offense will also have to be cleaner than it has been on the road, where pre-snap penalties have made life harder than it needs to be. Against Georgia, those little mistakes can snowball fast, and Auburn is heading into a game where discipline, field position and execution will matter as much as talent. [Read more 🡒]
