Auburn Softball's Power Surge: A Record-Tying Performance
In a dazzling display of power hitting, Auburn softball tied its single-game record with six home runs, cruising past California with a commanding 19-3 victory at the Big League Dreams Complex. This emphatic win wrapped up their stint at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic, pushing their season record to 13-4.
Co-head coach Chris Malveaux couldn't hide his satisfaction with the team's performance. "It’s been a long week with tough opponents, but our offense really stepped up today," he remarked. Auburn's explosive start set the tone, with the Tigers putting on a show of intent and competitive spirit from the first pitch.
Leading the charge were senior McKaela Walker and freshman Haven Roebuck, each launching two homers. The power duo was complemented by junior Ma’Nia Womack and freshman Delaney Aumua, who also sent balls soaring over the fence. Auburn wrapped up the tournament with an impressive tally of 13 home runs.
Walker had a standout game, going 3-for-3 with two home runs and six RBIs, while Roebuck added four RBIs with her two blasts. Sophomore AnnaLea Adams contributed with a key two-run single in the third inning.
On the mound, Auburn showcased depth and resilience. The starting pitcher allowed just one unearned run over two innings, striking out three. Redshirt freshman Abby Herndon picked up the win, her second of the season, allowing only one run in her inning of work.
Auburn's offense was relentless from the get-go. Walker and Roebuck's homers in the first inning quickly built a 5-0 lead. Roebuck's solo shot in the third extended the advantage, and a nine-run explosion in the same inning, highlighted by Womack's homer, pushed the lead to 14-1.
California managed to scratch a run in the third, but Auburn's relentless attack continued. Walker and Aumua added to the home run tally in the fifth, sealing a dominant 19-1 lead. Although Cal added a few runs late, Auburn's lead was never in doubt.
