It didn’t take long for new Auburn head coach Alex Golesh to land his first big recruiting win. On Wednesday, the Tigers officially signed quarterback Rhys Brush out of Armwood High School in Seffner, Florida, during the Early Signing Period - and it’s a name Auburn fans will want to remember.
Brush, a 3-star prospect in the 2026 class according to the 247Sports Composite, is set to enroll early on The Plains. Standing at 6-foot-2 and weighing 180 pounds, he’s currently rated as the No. 75 quarterback in the class. But rankings only tell part of the story - the rest is written on the field, and Brush has been doing that in bold print.
This commitment also carries a personal connection. Brush was previously committed to Golesh during his time at USF, and now he’s following the coach to Auburn.
That kind of loyalty - and belief in a coach’s vision - speaks volumes about the relationship between the two. For Golesh, it’s a strong start in building a new foundation at Auburn, and for Brush, it’s a chance to grow in a system he already believes in.
Let’s talk production. As a junior at Armwood, Brush lit up the stat sheet with 2,489 passing yards and 37 touchdowns, setting a new single-season school record for passing scores. That performance helped lead Armwood to an undefeated season and a deep run into the Class 6A regional finals in 2024.
His senior season saw a bit of a statistical dip - 1,685 yards and 24 touchdowns - but the Hawks haven’t missed a beat. They’re currently 13-0 in 2025 and preparing to host West Boca Raton in the Class 6A state semifinals this Friday night.
That kind of consistency from a quarterback - regardless of the stat line - is what recruiters look for. Brush has been a steady hand under center, and his leadership has been a driving force behind Armwood’s sustained success.
Across four years of high school football, Brush compiled 6,094 passing yards and 878 touchdown passes - and no, that’s not a typo. While the touchdown total might raise eyebrows, the key takeaway is clear: this kid knows how to find the end zone. Add in 691 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns on the ground, and you’ve got a dual-threat quarterback who can keep defenses honest.
For Auburn, this is a move that signals intent. The Tigers currently sit at No. 60 in the 247Sports Composite team rankings for the 2026 cycle, with 13 commitments on the board. But with Golesh now at the helm - after five seasons at USF and officially taking over for Hugh Freeze on Sunday - this class is just getting started.
Rhys Brush may not be the highest-rated QB in the country, but he brings production, poise, and a proven track record of winning. And in a new era at Auburn, that’s exactly the kind of player you want leading the charge.
