Auburn Set to Challenge Oklahoma in Thrilling Tennis Showdown Thursday

Auburn's formidable women's tennis team prepares for a tough road challenge against a resilient Oklahoma squad as they aim to maintain their top ranking.

Auburn, Ala. - The No. 13 Auburn women’s tennis team is gearing up for a showdown against No.

11 Oklahoma this Thursday at 11:30 a.m. CT at the Headington Family Tennis Center in Norman, Oklahoma.

This match marks the Tigers' second consecutive road game as they continue their 2026 SEC campaign.

Auburn head coach Jordan Szabo shared his thoughts on the upcoming match: "Oklahoma has a strong team. We remember last year’s tight 4-3 loss to them, especially since they were a top four seed in the NCAA Tournament.

A win against them could have put us in that top four spot. It’s going to be a big match."

Several Auburn players have already competed in a professional event at the venue, giving them a bit of familiarity with the conditions. Szabo emphasized the need for the team to compete with high energy and intensity, given Oklahoma’s spirited play.

Auburn enters the contest with an impressive 16-1 overall record and a 1-0 standing in conference play. The Tigers kicked off their conference journey with a solid 5-2 victory against Florida on the road. According to the latest UTR College Team Rankings, Auburn holds the No. 1 position for the second week running.

Senior DJ Bennett, hailing from Belleview, Florida, was instrumental in the recent win, clinching the doubles point alongside Ava Esposito and securing victory at the No. 1 singles position with a 6-3, 6-3 win over No. 54 Valery Gynina. Her outstanding performance earned her the SEC Player of the Week honors.

Teammates Ashton Bowers and Ava Esposito also contributed with straight-set singles victories, maintaining their unbeaten streaks at 10-0 and 11-0, respectively, in dual-match singles play this season.

On the other side, Oklahoma boasts a 10-2 overall record and remains undefeated at home with an 8-0 streak. The Sooners started their conference play with a commanding 4-0 win over Arkansas.

Their only setbacks this season were against No. 2 Texas A&M and No.

3 North Carolina at the ITA National Team Indoor Championship.

Sophomore Julia Garcia Ruiz stands out for Oklahoma, ranked No. 18 in singles with an 11-6 record this season. Additionally, the duo of Roisin Gilheany and Gloriana Nahum leads the nation as the top-ranked doubles team with a 10-2 record.
