Auburn’s 2027 recruiting class took a small but notable stumble this week after three-star cornerback Nash Johnson announced he was flipping his commitment from the Plains to Georgia.
That change knocked the Tigers down in the rankings, dropping them to No. 10 in the country after they had climbed as high as No. 9, according to ESPN. It is only a one-spot slide for now, but with Auburn sitting through a disappointing first season under Alex Golesh, the class bears watching if more prospects decide to take visits elsewhere.
Even with Johnson’s flip, ESPN still views Auburn’s group as one of the stronger 2027 hauls in the nation, with the offense drawing especially strong praise.
“RB Myson Johnson-Cook was a big recruiting win and is a dynamic speedster with multi-positional talent,” ESPN’s Craig Haubert wrote. “WR Brylan Oduor adds size and speed (4.51 40) on the outside, and fellow four-star receiver Deshawn Hall joined the group in late June and arrives with plenty of height (6-5).”
Johnson-Cook has become a key piece of the class and has already shown plenty of upside for Auburn. He has also been active in helping the Tigers build out the class, and his own profile stands out as well - he is currently ranked as the fifth-best running back in the class.
Hall, meanwhile, was one of Auburn’s biggest wins on the trail. He had been considered a major Penn State lean before Auburn made a late push and pulled him to the Plains, a sign that Golesh can still go head-to-head with top programs for elite talent.
The Tigers have also stacked some intriguing defensive pieces.
“They have also added play speed to their secondary with the big addition of Chance Gilbert, who has been regularly recorded hitting 22 mph in game play,” Haubert continued. “Among several other DB additions, three-star Knyair Crumb is a physical presence and good tackler who also possesses good speed and can bring some position versatility.”
At the top of that defensive group is four-star linebacker Isaac McNeil, the highest-rated player in Auburn’s 2027 class. If he stays committed, he could help carry on Auburn’s long line of standout linebackers.

Alex Golesh Made One Auburn Decision Fans Will Talk About All Week
Alex Golesh had plenty to smile about after Auburns 27-24 upset of Georgia in Week 7, but his postgame interview showed how much the moment meant to him. Auburn Faces A Brutal Early Test In Athens Under Alex Golesh
Auburn heads into Saturdays 2:30 p.m. kickoff on ESPN with one of the toughest assignments on its schedule, a trip to face No. 1 Georgia in Athens. Around the beat, the matchup has been framed as another measuring-stick moment for a Tigers team still trying to find its footing, while Georgia brings the kind of talent and recent rivalry success that has made this series feel steep for anyone wearing orange and blue.
The one thing Auburn can point to is the bye week, which gave the Tigers extra time to reset before walking into an atmosphere where mistakes usually get exposed quickly. Even with that preparation, the challenge remains obvious, because Georgia has owned this rivalry lately and Auburns season has already made clear how much work there still is to do under Alex Golesh.
