A former Auburn football employee is facing felony charges after police say he leaked sensitive recruiting information to other schools.
The Auburn Police Department announced that Jenrath, 24, was charged with theft of trade secrets and computer tampering, both of which are felonies under Alabama law. He was arrested Monday and booked into the Lee County Jail, where he was being held Tuesday afternoon on a $15,000 bond.
Police said the case began after “a business [with an address matching the location of Auburn’s athletic department] reported that sensitive information was stolen from the business and distributed to their competitors.” The release added that “the business reported that one of their competitors received the information and turned it over to them.”
According to the complaint, Jenrath was identified by Auburn Police after an investigation. Charging documents accuse him, on the computer tampering count, of disclosing, using, controlling or taking computer programs and data with the “intent to harass Auburn University Athletics by disclosing trade secrets of Auburn University Athletics to their opponents.” On the theft of trade secrets charge, the criminal complaint says that while he was employed by Auburn, he kept confidential Auburn University Athletics information and passed those trade secrets along without permission.
Multiple outlets reported Tuesday that Jenrath had first been on former head coach Hugh Freeze’s football staff and remained with the program under Alex Golesh. A report from On3 said he was dismissed earlier this year after being seen in the student section at Auburn’s baseball NCAA super regional game in June.
Jenrath reportedly told Auburn personnel he was sick and not working because of the illness. He was fired after he was spotted at the game.
After his dismissal, he reportedly sent an email to nearly a dozen other schools containing sensitive documents. A source confirmed to AL.com that the material involved Auburn football recruiting, and that nothing in the documents dealt with game plans.
Auburn, through an athletics department spokesperson, declined comment on Jenrath’s arrest.
Jenrath’s LinkedIn profile, which has since been deleted, listed him as a Player Personnel Scouting Assistant at Auburn University from January 2026 through June 2026. The profile said he focused on running backs and special teams. It also listed him as a student in sports analytics at the University of Tennessee, though AL.com has not yet been able to confirm whether he is or ever has been enrolled there.
The Auburn Police Department said Jenrath, a Franklin, Tennessee, resident, faces Class C felony charges. Under Alabama law, a conviction on a Class C felony can bring a prison sentence of 1 to 10 years and fines of up to $15,000.
